Team Form, Key Players & Tactics

New Zealand

New Zealand come into this clash as the slight underdogs. But I think this match is quite evenly matched. A win here would see the Black Caps go to the top of the table. Even a loss should see them through to the Semi Finals (unless Pakistan absolutely thrashes Sri Lanka).

This will be New Zealand’s second game in a row at R Premadasa Stadium, and they will be playing on a used pitch, which works to their advantage. I think they really needed that run under their belts at R Premadasa Stadium, and boy, that wasn’t looking too good for the New Zealanders for a while there against Sri Lanka.

But a captain’s knock by Mitchell Santner (and assistance from Cole McConchie) helped steer them out of trouble. The likes of Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell can all be game changers for New Zealand as well. New Zealand should be able to use its experience on the ground much more to its benefit.

England

While England, on paper, has looked good, a lot of their performances were a little shaky. They will face a real test from New Zealand in this game. Will they relax a bit knowing they are guaranteed to make it to the Semi Finals?

R Premadasa Stadium is more bowler-friendly than some of the other grounds England has played at so far in this tournament. England batters have been a bit shaky at times as well, and New Zealand’s bowlers certainly have what it takes to rattle them.

England’s openers fell cheaply last time out against Pakistan, but captain Harry Brook’s century saved the day. Could this come down to a battle of the captains and who has the most influence on the game? The team have won 13 of their last 15 T20Is, so there’s no shortage of confidence.

New Zealand vs England Key Stats

We haven’t really seen New Zealand and England play each other very much in T20Is lately. The two played a three-game series in October last year, but two of those games were washed out, and England won the other one. Overall, in the last five matches, New Zealand have won two, England have won one, and there were two no results.

The most vital trends that you should be aware of leading into this match:

  • New Zealand have scored an average of 175.4 in their five games during the World Cup.
  • Expect spin bowling to play a major factor at R Premadasa Stadium, where it is becoming increasingly difficult to score runs.
  • Tim Seifert has the most T20 runs for New Zealand in the last year; look for him to go big in this game.

Our Cricket Betting Predictions

In what looks like a closely contested match, I’m going with the value New Zealand presents here. Playing it simple and taking New Zealand to get the outright win at $2.00. The Kiwis have now played on the Colombo pitch and have shown they have players who can dig them out of trouble at any time.

England is a very dangerous team, but I feel like they might come into this one a little too relaxed, as they have already booked their spot in the Semi Finals. They have also had a few shaky results throughout the tournament, and with spin playing a major factor at this venue, I have to give the edge to New Zealand.

Final Words

This game shakes up to be the toughest test for each team. No matter the result, we will likely see New Zealand in the Semi Finals. However, pride (and top spot in Group 2) is on the line. Take New Zealand to get the win in a close one. But before you place your bets, be sure to check out our best online sports betting bonuses to see what value is available.
