It looks like a batting wicket here again, so the likes of Allen, Seifert, and Phillips will have to fire one last time. The discovery of Cole McConchie with the ball has also come at the right time, and I think he is New Zealand’s best shot at containing the Indian batters. The likes of Ravindra and Santner are another two to watch with the ball.

India

India has an all-out attack approach, and sometimes it can get them in trouble. However, usually at least one player stands up and gets them out of trouble. They have great depth to their batting. So, even if New Zealand can take a couple of wickets early, India can still pile on the runs. Players like Kishan, Dube, and Pandya have been whacking the ball to all parts.

Jasprit Bumrah shapes up to be the key player for India, especially the key bowler. He was the difference in the game against England, and I think the result may rest on how well he bowls in this one. I can’t wait to see how he goes against New Zealand’s aggressive opening pair of Seifert and Allen.

I think wicketkeeper-batsman Samson is another who can turn the game for India if he gets going. He comes into this game in form, knocking 89 off 42 balls against England. He has cemented himself as a reliable rungetter for the Indians and if the top order batsmen can’t fire, India know they have Samson waiting in the wings.

One stat the Kiwis will love is that they have never lost to India in a T20 World Cup. They have won all three of their meetings, most recently in 2021. However, looking at the broader T20I record, the two teams have played each other 30 times, with India winning 18, New Zealand winning 11, and one tie.

Both teams won their Semi-Final clash to make it into the big dance. New Zealand beat a formidable South African team as the underdogs by nine wickets (with 42 balls left). India’s clash with England was a little closer, but they looked fairly comfortable in the end, winning by seven runs.

Once again, it looks like the toss will play a major part in this game. Win the toss, and you’re looking to bat second as the dew comes into play in the second innings, making it more difficult for the bowlers to grip the ball. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that winning the toss will also win the game, but it will certainly change the odds in favour of the winning team.

Both teams have the star power and class to win this one. However, it is really hard for me to go past India, who are playing at home. It shapes up to be a high-scoring game, though, and with India’s odds to win outright being a little short for my liking, I’ll be taking the overs on total runs.
