New Zealand vs India - Cricket Betting Tips

Things didn’t really go according to plan for the Black Caps in Game 1 of the ODI series. They will be looking to bounce back here, with the focus firmly on the batters for this one. The BettingTop10 team walks you through all the most important details for this clash.

News Highlights

  • Nitish Kumar Reddy is set to leave the ODI squad in preparation for the Test series, joining India A for their Test match.
  • There are still question marks around the availability of Devon Conway, who missed Game 1 with a concussion.
  • Rain may be a factor in Game 2 as well, with showers potentially hitting Wellington during the evening.

The Black Caps will need to put in a much better performance than they did in Game 1. They were all bowled out in 40.2 overs, with just 185 runs on the board. Then, the rain came. India ended up chasing down the new total of 143 in just 22.4 overs. Before the first ball is bowled in Game 2, make sure you take a look at our cricket betting selections!

Team Form, Key Players & Tactics

New Zealand

New Zealand will be hoping to bounce back after a significant defeat in Game 1. They struggled to build momentum of any kind with the bat, and they were bowled out with 10 overs left to spare. The bowlers performed slightly better, but that was after the game was well and truly done.

As always, Daryl Mitchell remains a threat with the bat. He scored 28 before being run out in Game 1. Another player that really needs to stand up is captain Mitchell Santner. He has ability with both the bat and ball, and an all-round performance would really go a long way to winning Game 2.

The focus of the Black Caps for this clash should be around building partnerships. They didn’t really do that in Game 1, and it limited their momentum. Expect some assistance for the seamers thanks to Wellington’s conditions. If the Black Caps can get India’s top three out cheaply, they have a fighting chance.

India

India was quite impressive with their win in Game 1. They did let things slip slightly with the bat, but that was after the game was virtually already in the bag. After a lengthy rain delay, they chased down the revised target in just 22.4 overs.

King Kohli had to be the standout performer, especially with the bat. His experience helped set up his side for success, with 74 runs off 51 balls. With the ball, it was Arshdeep Singh who shone. However, it was Anshul Kamboj who was named Man of the Match with an economy of just 2.2 across his 10 overs!

Don’t expect many changes to the tactics of the Indian side; it worked very well in Game 1, so why change? With overcast conditions, the bowlers will probably look to exploit any early movement. The top three will be expected to build the foundation for the middle-order batters as well.

New Zealand vs India Key Stats

India have a 3-2 record over New Zealand in the last five ODIs played, dating back to March 2025. As we already know, India won the last game over New Zealand in this series. New Zealand have lost their last two ODIs, one to India a couple of days ago, and then another to the West Indies in July. Meanwhile, India have won three of their last five ODIs.

The most vital trends that you should be aware of leading into this match:

  • Teams batting first at Hnry Stadium have won 16 of the last 30 completed ODIs, so there isn’t necessarily any advantage to batting first or second.
  • The average first-innings score at this ground is 266 runs, across the last 11 ODIs dating back to 2015.
  • Virat Kohli loves playing against New Zealand in ODIs, averaging 57.5 with the bat and scoring a total of 1,897 runs in his time.

Our Cricket Betting Predictions

In my opinion, not much has changed between Game 1 and Game 2. New Zealand are still plagued with injuries (especially with their bowlers), and India have two key stars back in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The visitors managed to win even without Sharma getting going.

If New Zealand want a chance of winning this one, they have to dismantle the top three. After that, India does look slightly vulnerable. However, I don’t think the Black Caps have the bowlers to do that. Sharma was out for a duck last time out, so he’ll probably be looking to redeem himself in this game.

Take India to win @ $1.67.

Final Words

The BettingTop10 team is excited to see how Game 2 of this series shakes out. These are the top two ranked sides in ODIs, but New Zealand certainly didn’t act like it. While India may prove too good for New Zealand once again, we’re expecting a closer game this time out. Can the Black Caps rescue the series and avoid going 0-2 down?
