Team Form, Key Players & Tactics

New Zealand

New Zealand haven’t got off to the best of starts in this series, losing Game 1 convincingly. They need to be much better with the bat, especially after losing five wickets in the powerplay. Bevon Jacobs might be out for the Black Caps after injuring his knee.

I expect both Devon Conway and Tom Latham will open once again. Despite not troubling the scorers much in the last game, both have great records and are experienced enough to put the disappointment of the last game behind them.

Mitchell Santner will again lead the bowling attack, and in the first game, he was the most economical of all the bowlers. He allowed just eight runs off his bowling in four overs, and took a wicket as well. Zak Foulkes was also fairly economical and took a wicket.

South Africa

South Africa didn’t have to chase down a lot in Game 1, but a couple of early wickets did raise a few questions. In the end, Connor Esterhuizen steered them home comfortably with his unbeaten 45. It will be interesting to see how they approach this game, especially if they bat first, or if New Zealand puts a defendable total on the board.

With four debutants last time out, South Africa looked decent with the ball and in the field. Even though New Zealand had the more experienced squad last time out, they were quickly exposed by the South African bowlers.

Nqobani Mokoena, in particular, enjoyed a memorable debut with the ball, taking a game-high three wickets. Mokoena was awarded player of the match for his efforts. South Africa has shown they are a capable team, even without most of their World Cup stars.

  • The average first innings score at Seddon Park is 180.

Our Cricket Betting Predictions

Another intriguing game awaits us, as we see some new-ish faces on the international scene. I liked the look of New Zealand in Game 1, and that was obviously wrong! Underestimate South Africa at your peril, but we rarely see two very poor games from New Zealand back-to-back.

Santner will once again lead from the front, and they know more about what to expect from the South Africans. I think New Zealand will be looking to make a statement in this game, especially in front of their home crowd. They will be desperate to make up for their poor performance in Game 1.

Final Words

Game 2 of the New Zealand and South Africa series is almost upon us! Can New Zealand make up for their below-par performance in Game 1? The answer to all our questions and more will be revealed soon.

I think New Zealand underestimated South Africa last time out, and they certainly won’t be doing that this time. So, I’ll be taking New Zealand to win Game 2. Before you get your bets sorted, check around to see if there are any free bets to take advantage of.
