New Zealand

Back-to-back wins for the Black Caps in Games 2 and 3 put them in an excellent position for Game 4. I mean, we are getting a second-string South Africa team, but the win is never promised, as we saw in Game 1. New Zealand looks to be humming now, winning those last two games convincingly.

In Game 3, the Black Caps bowled first, and every bowler that was handed the ball took at least one wicket. The economy rate of Lockie Ferguson was simply amazing (2.25 from his four overs). Once again, we saw Captain Mitchell Santner lead from the front, taking two wickets.

Looking at the batters now, openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham got their team off to a great start. Latham finished with an unbeaten 63 of 55 balls. The pressure was never on the pair as the bowlers did their job and only had 137 runs to get.

South Africa

After a surprising win in Game 1, things have spiralled quickly for South Africa. I don’t think a lot of people gave them a chance before the series, considering the squad they are playing with compared to New Zealand’s. But with back-to-back convincing defeats, what’s next for this team?

The team is in somewhat of a form slump, and they have lost five of their last six games across all formats. Captain Keshav Maharaj has his work cut out for him as he deals with a raft of internationally inexperienced players. 

There seems to be more pressure on the batters, with their top run scorer this series, Connor Esterhuizen, sitting at just 68 runs. South Africa simply doesn’t have the depth to deal with a setback, not like the Black Caps anyway. It might be another uphill battle for them in Game 4.

In T20Is, New Zealand have won three of the last five games against South Africa, which follows a pattern of W-W-L-W-L for the Black Caps. In this series, Game 1 was taken out by South Africa, then Games 2 and 3 were won by New Zealand. We are yet to see a closely contested game in this series as well.

New Zealand have the depth, form, and confidence to get the win here and therefore a win in the series. While South Africa is down, they are certainly not out. So, while I do think New Zealand will win, watch out as this game may be closer than the previous three.
