Arsenal
Arsenal already have their sights set on next season after a campaign undone by injuries and misfortune.
It might seem like a cliche at this point, but Mikel Arteta’s men have fallen short once again after showing promise at home and in Europe. Should they cling to their spot, a semi-final exit in Europe and a second-place league finish is all they’ll take from this season.
With just one win in their last six league outings, Arteta would like to see his team return to winning ways against Newcastle and close out the season on a high. NZ betting sites are labelling them favourites to beat the Magpies.
Team News: Mikel Merino is ruled out due to suspension, paving the way for Leandro Trossard to spearhead the Arsenal attack.
Predicted Lineup: Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli.
Newcastle United
Over the past 21 Premier League games, only Liverpool (47 points) boast a better return than Newcastle’s 46-points haul. While Alexander Isak, with 23 goals this season, has often stolen the spotlight, it’s been a collective effort from the Toon Army that has driven their charge.
Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy, Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Pope have all made key contributions this season. Following a commanding 2-0 win over top-five rivals Chelsea, Eddie Howe’s side now shift focus to another London challenger for Champions League football: Arsenal.
Given their strong form, backing Newcastle to get another positive result is an enticing prospect.
Team News: Joe Willock and Kieran Trippier missed the Chelsea clash through minor injuries, but both remain in contention to return for the trip to London.
Predicted Lineup: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
