Premier League: Arsenal vs West Ham - Betting Tips, Odds & Prediction

Arsenal host fellow Londoners West Ham United for a derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday morning New Zealand time. 

Win, and the Gunners can go top of the Premier League table - for a brief moment, at least, as the Reds play Chelsea two and a half hours later. West Ham, meanwhile, will hope to avoid their first defeat under Nuno Espirito Santo. 

The top betting websites have rolled out their odds for this match. We break them down, before outlining our prediction and betting tips in this Arsenal vs West Ham preview.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta heaved a sigh of relief, seeing Gabriel Magalhaes scoring a 96th-minute winner against Newcastle last weekend. The pressure was mounting on the Arsenal boss for his conservative tactics as Liverpool opened a five-point gap after gameweek five, but now they are only two points shy of Arne Slot’s men. 

However, the challenge should be more difficult than what the betting odds suggest. Arsenal lost their last two home games against the Hammers, so they will be desperate to bring their A-game on Sunday and avoid another slip-up against their neighbours.

Team News: Martin Odegaard should expect to start after his excellent cameo against Newcastle.

West Ham

West Ham decided to part ways with Graham Potter after a disastrous start to the season, and moved fast to secure the services of Santo. His first assignment was a tricky trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium and he managed to salvage a point. 

Betting apps still consider West Ham one of the weakest teams in the Premier League and it will take a series of consistent results for that perception to change. 

After impressive stints at Wolves and Forest, there is reason to believe Santos will be able to steady the ship at West Ham. While they will be the underdogs against Arsenal, Santos’ men will fancy their chances of causing an upset.

Team News: Tomas Soucek will be available for selection after serving a two-match ban.

• West Ham have lost in eight of the last 11 London derbies they played. 
• Arsenal have lost four of their last 42 Premier League matches at Emirates, and two of those defeats came against the Hammers.

Santo has an impressive record against Arsenal. The Portuguese manager has overseen 10 matches against the Gunners and lost only four, winning three and drawing three against last season’s runners-up.

Arteta’s men tend to struggle against low block teams, and West Ham showed that they can be well-drilled at the back under Santos in the Everton game. Arsenal do pose more attacking threat than the Toffees. However, they might still find it difficult to break down West Ham. 

That said, the Newcastle performance should give Arsenal a lot more self belief. They seemed quite fluid in attack and ground out a 2-1 victory against one of the best defences in the league. 

So, we’re tipping an Arsenal win. Jarrod Bowen has already scored three Premier League goals for West Ham this season, but we don’t think he, or any of his teammates, will be able to find the back of the net on Sunday.
