Premier League: Aston Villa vs Tottenham

Aston Villa and Tottenham go head to head at Villa Park on Monday morning New Zealand time in a Premier League fixture with very different stakes for each side.

Villa are fifth on 58 points, chasing a top-four finish. Spurs are 18th on 34, two points adrift of safety with four to go. In this Aston Villa vs Tottenham preview, I’ve got a BTTS angle I like for those checking football betting tips ahead of Monday.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Analysis

Aston Villa

Villa’s season is at the business end now. A Europa League semi-final first leg against Nottingham Forest on Thursday night preceded this fixture, and the second leg follows on Wednesday. It’s a gruelling schedule.

Their league form has been patchy since February. Two wins from five – a 2-0 over West Ham and a wild 4-3 against Sunderland – sandwiched by a 1-3 loss at Old Trafford and a 1-0 defeat at Fulham last week.

At Villa Park, though, they’ve won their last two league matches. Ollie Watkins has scored his 100th Aston Villa goal this season and Morgan Rogers has 14 Premier League goal contributions from midfield. Rogers equalised in the 2-1 win at Spurs in October before Emiliano Buendia curled in the winner.

The Europa League schedule is the only factor giving Tottenham a chance here. If Emery rests key players for Wednesday’s second leg, this gets interesting.

Team News: Kamara and Alysson are long-term absentees. Onana is doubtful after missing the Fulham squad with a minor complaint. Buendia picked up a knock at Old Trafford but has played since.

Predicted Lineup: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Pau Torres, Digne; Bogarde, Tielemans; McGinn, Buendia, Rogers; Watkins.

Tottenham

Spurs won their first Premier League match of 2026 last Saturday – a 1-0 at Wolves through a Joao Palhinha goal – but it came at a cost. Xavi Simons ruptured his ACL and Dominic Solanke left with a muscle injury. Both are done for the season.

Before the Wolves result, Tottenham had gone 15 consecutive Premier League matches without a victory. Roberto De Zerbi took over from Igor Tudor at the end of March and he’s managed just one win from three league games.

Their injury list is brutal. Simons and Solanke have joined a treatment room that already included Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski. James Maddison is on the bench only, while Mohammed Kudus suffered a setback that could end his season too. Richarlison has nine league goals and he’s essentially the only attacking threat left.

Team News: Simons (ACL), Solanke (muscle), Romero, Kulusevski, Maddison, Kudus, Odobert and Sarr are all out. Udogie (muscle) and Vicario (hernia) are hopeful but not certain.

Predicted Lineup: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Bissouma; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Richarlison; Tel.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Stats and Trends

  • Villa have won their last three meetings with Spurs across all competitions, including 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October.
  • Tottenham went 15 Premier League games without a win before beating already-relegated Wolves 1-0 last Saturday.
  • Spurs have scored 43 and conceded 53 across 34 league matches this season.
  • Villa have won their last two home Premier League fixtures, scoring six goals.
  • BTTS has occurred in five of the last six meetings between these clubs.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Prediction

Villa are the clear favourites and I’m not going to fight it. Even with Europa League rotation, their squad depth is enough to handle a Spurs side missing this many players. Rogers and Watkins against a defence propped up by Micky van de Ven and little else – I don’t see an upset.

I do think Spurs score, though. Palhinha has chipped in from midfield and Richarlison can still produce a moment. I can’t see Tottenham sitting deep when they desperately need points for survival.

Villa to win with both sides finding the net. For those watching via live betting sites, the second-half goals angle could be worth monitoring given Villa’s tendency to break teams down late.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham – The Ultimate Bet

Aston Villa to Win and Both Teams to Score @ $3.40

Spurs have scored in seven of their last 10 away league matches. They scored at Brighton, at Liverpool, at Fulham. Even with half the squad in the treatment room, they’ve got enough to grab one.

But Villa have won three straight against Tottenham and scored in nine consecutive home league games. A straight Villa win at $2.10 doesn’t offer much. Combining it with BTTS at $3.40 is where the price gets interesting, and I’ve been comparing that across betting sites in NZ all week.

Spurs will score. Villa will score more. I’m backing it.
