Botafogo will aim to make the most of home advantage when they welcome a struggling Corinthians side to the Estadio Nilton Santos on Sunday morning.

Fogo sit fifth in the Brasilliero Serie A standings, and are currently on an eight-match unbeaten streak in the Brazilian top-flight. Corinthians, on the other hand, have only one win to show for their last six Serie A outings. Now, they will fly to the former Brazilian capital, hoping to avoid a third successive defeat at Estadio Nilton Santos.

Botafogo

Since Davide Ancelotti took the reins at Fogo, the team’s defence has been rock solid. Ancelotti, who is the son of Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti, replaced Renato Paiva after Botafogo crashed out of the Club World Cup. 

Football betting sites foresee an easy win for the home team because of their solid home form. Botafogo have had their struggles on the road, but Estadio Nilton Santos have been a fortress for the reigning Copa Libertadores champions. They are yet to lose a league match in front of their home crowd this season.

Team News: Matheus Martins is a doubt as he struggles with a hamstring problem. Jeffinho and Bastos are set to drop out with knee injuries.

Corinthians

Corinthians briefly halted their winless run with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ceara, but quickly slipped back into old habits with a 2-0 defeat to Sao Paulo.

Dorival Junior’s men, however, have been quite underwhelming outside the Neo Quimica Arena. The win at Ceara was their first away win of the season, and now Corinthians’ away record in the league says, one win, three draws, and  three losses. Not extraordinary by any means. 

The attack has suffered, in particular, when Corinthians have played away from home this season. But, the five-time Serie A champions have a much-better defensive shape, which could cause problems for the hosts. 

Team News: Gustavo Henrique should be available for selection after recovering from a muscle fatigue issue.

Predicted Lineup: Souza; Mana, Caca, Ramalho, Bidu; Carrillo, Raniele, Martinez; Garro; Romero, Depay.

• Corinthians have won in only five of their 20 trips to Estadio Nilton Santos.
• Both teams did not score in Botafogo’s last six matches across all tournaments.
• Corinthians have scored only three goals in their last five games across all competitions. 

It’s hard to disagree with what the odds on betting apps are saying about this one. Corinthians don’t seem to have solutions to the countless problems they have and Botafogo have been a rejuvenated side with a new manager in charge.  

Defensively, both teams are solid. As mentioned above, Botafogo did not let the net bulge on their end since Ancelotti came in. Corinthians have also let in only five goals in their last five matches, so going against the under market seems to be a big risk. 

Resultwise, it’s pretty obvious. Botafogo have the momentum on their side and have been playing great since returning from their Club World Cup duties. Corinthians did little to make their fans feel optimistic ahead of this one. A draw also seems out of the question.  So, we believe Botafogo will win with a narrow margin.

Botafogo have been incredible in front of their home fans. Corinthians come to town as one of the worst travelling sides in the division. Timao do have a good defence, but we must not forget they conceded twice against a lacklustre Sao Paolo team last week. Botafogo is a much harder challenge and we expect them to concede twice again without scoring. With that in mind, a 2-0 home win looks like good value at $7.00 odds on Bet365.
