I’ve been combing through the data for the CAF AFCON semi-finals and reckon I’ve found a gem of a multi. The business end of the tournament always throws up some drama, but there’s serious value to be found on NZ betting sites if you know where to look. I’m focusing on combining three nice, safe punts, which I’m confident will produce a handy 10x return this Thursday.

Senegal vs Egypt

Thursday January 15, 6:00am NZT, Grand Stade de Tanger

This is a massive grudge match - a repeat of the 2021 final - and I think Senegal have the edge this time. They were professional in their 1-0 win over Mali on the weekend, showing the kind of defensive grit that wins tournaments. Egypt scraped past Ivory Coast in a 3-2 thriller, in which they looked incredibly open at the back.

Egypt rely heavily on Salah’s magic, but I’m picking that Senegal’s midfield will be disciplined enough to restrict how much ball he gets. I’m backing Senegal to control the tempo and nick a win in regular time. It won’t be pretty, but the first of my football betting tips is to take a narrow Senegal victory.

Morocco vs Nigeria

Thursday January 15, 9:00am NZT, Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium

Morocco have been absolutely flying on home soil. The atmosphere in Rabat is going to be deafening, and that home advantage is huge.

In the quarters, Morocco dismantled Cameroon 2-0 with a performance that screamed champions-in-waiting. Nigeria looked good beating Algeria, but they haven’t faced a defence as organised as this Moroccan unit.

I’ve checked the odds on betting apps and the price for a home win is great value. Morocco’s ability to suffocate teams in the midfield and then hit with precision through Diaz and Saibari should be the difference. I’m backing the hosts to book their place in the final.

Morocco vs Nigeria

Thursday January 15, 9:00am NZT, Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium

While I’m high on Morocco to win, I can’t see Nigeria drawing a blank either. They have arguably the most dangerous attack in the tournament with Osimhen and Lookman firing on all cylinders this month. These two create chances for fun, even when they’re under the pump.

Morocco will likely score - they have to, with the crowd behind them - but Nigeria’s pace on the break is terrifying. I reckon this game opens up once the first goal goes in. Adding BTTS as the third leg of our multi feels like a smart play, and bumps up our total return to double figures if this one hits.
