Premier League: Chelsea vs Liverpool

After succumbing to a humiliating 3-1 defeat at home, Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday morning to lock horns with Liverpool. The Merseysiders are the Premier League leaders right now, but their morale will have taken a hit after back-to-back defeats in the league and Europe.

The Blues have made amends for their subpar performance against Brighton with a much-needed win against Benfica in Europe. But is that going to give them enough momentum for a win against the reigning Premier League champions? We look at the odds across betting sites in NZ, before digging a bit deeper and giving our predictions.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Analysis

Chelsea

Chelsea ruined Jose Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge homecoming with a narrow 1-0 win over the Special One’s new team, Benfica. Enzo Maresca’s men did not produce a dominant display, but it was enough to pick up their first UCL win of the season, following their 3-1 loss to Bayern.

The Blues will now hope to turn their fortunes in domestic football as well, after a humiliating defeat to Brighton at home. Chelsea have not been in great form lately, losing three of their last five games, and the mounting injury crisis isn’t helping their cause in the slightest.

Team News: Trevoh Chalobah will not be available after being sent off against Brighton, while the likes of Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, and Liam Delap are also expected to sit out.

Predicted Lineup: Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Badiashile, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Estevao, Buonanotte, Garnacho; Pedro.

Liverpool

The reigning Premier League champions sought to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace with a win against Galatasaray. Unfortunately, the Istanbul outfit worsened their misery with a shock 1-0 victory.

Football sports betting sites view Liverpool as one of the likeliest contenders for the Premier League crown again, but the truth is, Arne Slot’s men looked far short of their level last season.

With so many new signings brought in, the team dynamics seem a bit off, even though they managed to grind out results in their first five matches.

Team News: Hugo Ekitike will be available to start after coming back from suspension.

Predicted Lineup: Alisson; Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Gakpo, Wirtz, Salah; Ekitike.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Stats and Trends

  • Chelsea have won only one of their six last matches against Liverpool.
  • Both teams have scored in four of the last five Chelsea vs Liverpool matches.
  • Liverpool have won one, lost one, and drew three of their last five visits to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction

Chelsea became the first team to win the Club World Cup in its new format this summer, but it came at a steep cost. Blues players are dropping like flies, with the influx of injury setbacks likely linked to the extra summer fixtures.

Liverpool are yet to hit top form, but they have managed to get the job done before the latest pair of defeats. Against a depleted Chelsea side struggling for form, however, the Reds should be able to get the full points.

This has historically been a goal-heavy fixture. The last four matches between Liverpool and Chelsea have seen 13 goals. Liverpool have scored at least in 40 Premier League matches running, and we are confident that they will extend that streak against Chelsea.

None of these teams have been rock solid at the back, so far. Therefore, we are predicting over 3.5 goals scored, and Liverpool to win.

Chelsea vs Liverpool - The Ultimate Bet

Hugo Ekitike to Score First @ $6.00

Hugo Ekitike has hit the ground running at Liverpool. The former Eintracht Frankfurt star has scored three goals and also registered an assist in five Premier League appearances for his new team. Mohamed Salah has not been in electric form this season, so we will pick Ekitike over Salah to open the proceedings at Stamford Bridge.

PlayUp is offering an enticing $6 payout if the Dutchman draws first blood on Sunday morning.
