Arsenal vs Manchester City
September 21st, 16:30, Emirates Stadium
Two giants of the Premier League collide when Arsenal take on Manchester City at the Emirates this Sunday. It’s been a tough start for Mikel Arteta’s side who now have to face City after having already played Liverpool and Manchester United. Sitting three points above Pep Guardiola’s side, it is an opportunity for Mikel Arteta’s men to put further daylight between the Cityzens and will allow them to stay close to Liverpool.
Both teams head into the clash in decent form. After blowing away Nottingham Forest last weekend, Arsenal showed what a good side they are as they beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 to kick off their Champions League in fine style.
Manchester City were boosted by an early Napoli red card, but they overcame stubborn resistance to oust Antonio Conte’s side 2-0. That makes it two wins in a row for City who of course beat rivals Manchester United 3-0 last weekend.
Ideally, this is a game both sides won’t want to lose, but when it comes to matches at the Emirates, Arsenal have had the upper hand in each of the last two seasons. Whilst they are the favourites for the win, they will have Erling Haaland to contend with. The Norwegian has been in blistering form of late and has four goals in his last three games for City. For him to score or assist at 2.20, looks like some real value and is our prediction for the clash ahead.
Erling Haaland to score or assist – 2.20
Bournemouth vs Newcastle
September 21st, 14:00, Vitality
After a thrilling match against Barcelona on Thursday where Newcastle were a shade unlucky not to get something out of the match, the Toon Army make the long trip south where they will square off against Bournemouth. They will travel knowing the assignment ahead of them.
With three wins from their first four games of the season, Bournemouth look like one of the best teams in the league through the early parts of the campaign. Unlucky not to have snatched something from Anfield on the opening day of the season, they have been gritty in wins against Brighton and Wolves but they absolutely blew Tottenham away at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and were unlucky not to win by more than one goal.
Both teams have been mean defensively with Newcastle just conceding three and Bournemouth five through this stage of the season and with Newcastle having played midweek, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this was to take a bit of time to come to the boil.
The last three games between the two at the Vitality Stadium have yielded under 2.5 goals and there is every chance that could happen once again.
Bournemouth vs Newcastle, under 2.5 goals – 2.00
Sunderland vs Aston Villa
September 21st, 14:00, Stadium of Light
Whilst it would be foolish to sound the panic alarm after just four games of the season, if Aston Villa fail to get a result against Sunderland the alarm bells will be well and truly ringing if the Villains fail to get a positive result at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
Billed as Champions Legue contenders before the start of the season, Villa have yet to win and haven’t yet scored a Premier League goal and Unai Emery will be keen to ensure that they don’t lose any further ground on their rivals this weekend.
Villa’s tough start to the season was compounded when they lost to Brentford in the Carabao Cup in midweek and they will hope that they can finally kickstart their campaign this weekend.
Sunderland have so far defied the experts who believed that they would be certainties to get relegated. Seven points from their first four games is a brilliant return and with four points from their last two games, they won’t be pushovers here. They have won their first two home games of the season, and they won’t fear a Villa side who arrive so out of form.
Despite being higher in the table than their rivals backing the Black Cats to avoid defeat could be the way to play here.
Sunderland to win or draw – 1.75
