UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: France vs Germany

An ambitious French team squares off against record champions Germany in a blockbuster UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 quarter-final on Sunday at St. Jakob-Park.

Les Bleues defied the odds across betting sites in NZ by seeing off defending champions England in their tournament opener. They then followed it up with comfortable wins against Wales and the Netherlands.

Germany, meanwhile, are licking their wounds after a humbling defeat to Sweden in their most recent group match. Christian Wuck’s team certainly have the quality to bounce back against the Group D winners, but the mental scars from that Sweden loss might come back to haunt them.

France vs Germany Analysis

France

France boss Laurent Bonadei made some big calls ahead of the tournament as he left out captain Wendie Renard and all-time top scorer Eugenie Le Sommer from the squad. Bonadei wanted to introduce a fresh dynamic into the team, and after the group stage, it seems he’s succeeded.

France have made great progress under the former PSG U19 manager, but their lack of success in major tournaments has led betting apps to label them as dark horses in international competitions. This time, however, the 2022 semifinalists have made it clear they mean business with a dominant group stage display.

Team News: Sandie Toletti and Pauline Payraud-Magnin missed training because of injuries. They will face late fitness tests, but as things stand, the duo will watch on from the sidelines on Sunday.

Predicted Lineup: Picaud; De Almeida, Samoura, Sombath, Bacha; Francois, Geyoro, Karchaoui; Cascarino, Katoto, Baltimore.

Germany

Germany sent France packing when they met in the Euros knockout stages most recently, but a lot has changed since their 2022 Euros semi-final meeting.

DFB-Frauen ground out lacklustre wins against Denmark and Poland before getting blown away by Sweden. Giulia Gwinn’s absence has dealt a major blow to Germany’s campaign. The German captain is a crucial part of the team’s backline and also the loudest voice in the dressing room.

Without their talismanic captain, Germany don’t look like a cohesive unit. Unless they solve their leadership issues and defensive frailties, it could be a long night in Basel for the European giants.

Team News: Gwinn’s replacement Carlotta Wamser picked up a red against Sweden, putting Wuck in a tough spot ahead of the France match.

Predicted Lineup: Berger; Hendrich, Minge, Knaak, Linder; Nusken, Senss; Brand, Freigang, Buhl; Schueller.

France vs Germany Stats and Trends

  • France and Germany have shared three wins each in their last six meetings.
  • France have been unable to keep a clean-sheet in any of their last four games.
  • The last three France vs Germany matches ended with a 2-1 scoreline.

France vs Germany Prediction

Old and new betting sites are considering France as the favourites after seeing their group stage performances. Germany eked out two wins before collapsing like a house of cards in their trickiest test of the season.

France, meanwhile, conquered England in their very first match. After taking care of the reigning champions, they made light work of the Netherlands and Wales. Momentum-wise, the teams are at opposite ends of the spectrum, which makes us lean towards the French in this one.

It should be a close battle, nonetheless. Germany have excellent attacking depth, but their defensive woes will likely give France the edge. But, chances are both teams will score and the overall goal tally should be over 2.5 goals.

France vs Germany - The Ultimate Bet

Sandy Baltimore First Goalscorer @ $9.00

Germany will be lining up against France without a specialist right-back. We have seen France’s quality on the wings in the previous games. Sandy Baltimore, who should start in the left side of the French attack should enjoy a plenty of joy down the right flank of the German defence. Baltimore had scored against England and will be a serious threat against a shaky German defence. The Chelsea star has a good chance of getting the first goal of the match, with this market priced at $9 by PlayUp.
