Germany
Germany once again made it out of their Women’s Euro group, as they always do. A second-place finish behind Sweden, however, saw them enter the quarters against an in-form France side with the odds across football betting sites stacked against them.
DFB-Frauen went a player down in the 13th minute to make things worse, but Kathrin Hendrich’s red card could not demotivate them. Germany fought on, forced the match to penalties, and came out on top.
Christian Wuck will hope to see the same fighting spirit from his team when they take on Spain on Thursday.
Team News: Carlotta Wamser will return to the squad after serving a one match suspension. Sophia Kleinherne should come into the starting XI to replace Kathrin Hendrich.
Predicted Lineup: Berner; Kett, Knaak, Carter, Kleinherne, Wamser; Minge; Brand, Senss; Nusken, Buhl; Hoffman.
Spain
Spain have been the team to beat in women’s international football lately. So, they should feel this is the best opportunity for them to end their wait for the first Euro crown.
Montserrat Tome’s team had to work hard for their ticket to the semifinals, however. After cruising through the group stage, their quarter-final tie against Switzerland looked like a straightforward assignment on paper, at least according to the odds on betting apps.
La Nati did not crumble under pressure, as many expected they would. The sea of red in the stands gave them the power to put up an impressive display against Spain. But Irene Paredes and company managed to grind out a 2-0 win.
Team News: Spain came out unscathed from their quarter-final battle with Switzerland. So, expect to see an unchanged squad.
Predicted Lineup: Coll; Battle, Paredes, Aleixandri, Carmona; Bonmati, Guijarro, Putellas; Caldentey, Pina, Gonzalez.
