Champions League: Inter Milan vs Arsenal

Inter Milan host Arsenal on Wednesday morning New Zealand time in a mouth-watering Champions League showdown at the San Siro.

The home side are currently sitting sixth in the league phase and recently saw their massive unbeaten home run in Europe ended by Liverpool. Meanwhile, the visitors are top of the table, yet to taste defeat in this competition. Can Inter Milan bounce back, or will Arsenal keep their unbeaten run rolling?

I’ve had a dig into all the nitty gritty details for this Inter Milan vs Arsenal preview. From team news to tactical match ups, read on for all you need to know to take your football betting game to the next level. There’s even a $3.40 play on one particularly NZ betting site that I’m high on this week.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal Analysis

Inter Milan

I reckon Inter Milan are the most disciplined team in Italy right now. They’re humming along at the top of Serie A and it feels like they’ve got a lot that’s going well. Lautaro Martinez is the man everyone’s talking about after his winner against Udinese, but the reality is they’ve got threats in every position.

My biggest worry for Inter is that they’ve finally shown some cracks at the San Siro after Liverpool came away with a win there recently. To avoid another loss, they’ll need to be clinical against an Arsenal side that doesn’t give much away. When they get the crowd fired up early, they’re a nightmare to play against, so don’t sleep on the Italians at home.

Team News: Hakan Calhanoglu is a slight doubt with a muscle injury. Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Augusto are also being monitored.

Predicted Lineup: Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez.

Arsenal

Arsenal are looking like the real deal this season. They’re second in the Champions League standings and haven’t dropped a game in Europe yet. I know they’ve just come off a 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest where they weren’t at their best, but you can’t judge them on one off-day - there’s a whole body of work that speaks otherwise.

The big story for me is Viktor Gyokeres. He was the summer addition everyone wanted, and even though he’s had a bit of a dry spell lately, Gyokeres is still their main goal threat. Along with Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze, this midfield is as dangerous as any in the world. Seeing how Gyokeres matches up against the Inter back three is going to be the highlight of the match - and it has a big influence on my prediction below.

Team News: Riccardo Calafiori is nearing a return but this might be too soon. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are both fit.

Predicted Lineup: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyokeres, Eze.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal Stats and Trends

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six Champions League matches.
  • The most recent meeting between these two ended in a 1-0 win for Inter Milan in late 2024.
  • Inter Milan recently lost their long unbeaten home run in the Champions League to Liverpool.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal Prediction

Expect a tactical chess match here. Inter are playing some great football, but Arsenal are an out-and-out winning machine that knows how to grind out results.

Inter will want to prove that the Liverpool loss was just a one-off and will be desperate to jump back up the Champions League table. Arsenal, on the other hand, will want to respond after their draw against Forest (and lock up their spot in the top two).

Bottom line, I think both teams will be happy with a point if this game is tight late on. I’m picking a hard-fought draw. Both sides are too good to lose but could well struggle to break each other down in such a high-stakes environment.

A 1-1 draw looks like the most likely outcome.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal – The Ultimate Bet

Draw and Under 2.5 Goals @ $3.40

This is the play for me. I don’t see either team going gung-ho and leaving themselves exposed. Inter have been solid defensively in Serie A, while Arsenal’s backline is arguably the best in Europe right now.

When you’ve got two teams this well-drilled, you often end up with a bit of a stalemate. I reckon they’ll cancel each other out in the middle of the park. Betting apps like Sportaza are offering a $3.40 return for a draw with less than three goals, which I think is great value, considering it covers 0-0 and 1-1 - the two most likely scores.
