Manchester United
I’m still trying to figure out what Manchester United is this season.
They just make winning look so, so hard. The club are coming off a chaotic 3-2 win against Fulham where they needed a 94th-minute winner to keep their winning streak alive. While they’ve got plenty of goals in them, the defence is about as reliable as an umbrella on a windy Wellington day (goals conceded now sit at 27 this season).
Michael Carrick has them playing more attacking football. Since taking over, he has leaned heavily on Senne Lammens in goal, who has been a standout performer in their recent winning streak. If they don’t tighten up the gaps between the midfield and the back four, Tottenham Hotspur will have a field day.
I reckon they’ll need to outscore their problems again here because I don’t see a clean sheet coming.
Team News: Bruno Fernandes is touch-and-go with a knock, which would be a massive loss for their creativity.
Predicted Lineup: Lammens; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Ugarte, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Mount, Garnacho; Cunha.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are also playing entertaining football, and come into this one off an impressive showing against Manchester City (2-2).
Dominic Solanke is in red-hot form, bagging a brace in that match including a sensational scorpion kick. They love to push their full-backs high and squeeze the life out of teams, which should work a treat against a Manchester United side that struggles under pressure.
My only worry for the visitors is their growing injury list in defence. Still, they look a lot more settled than their opponents right now. You can jump on NZ betting apps to see the latest prices, but I suspect the money will move towards an away result.
Team News: Destiny Udogie is nearing a return to full fitness, while Pedro Porro is definitely out. Djed Spence is a major doubt after picking up a calf strain.
Predicted Lineup: Vicario; Gray, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Bissouma, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.
