Mexico
Mexico extended their regional dominance by winning their maiden CONCACAF Nations League title. Javier Aguirre’s side are the team to beat in the region, but they did not appear to be anywhere near their best when they played their first game since their Nations League win in March.
Mexico fell to a 4-2 defeat against Switzerland earlier this month, conceding more goals than they had conceded in their previous five games across all competitions. While a friendly result might hardly seem to be the reason to press the panic button, Aguirre will be determined to get Mexico firing on all cylinders come Sunday.
Team News: Aguirre has dropped less experienced players like Emilio Lara, Ramon Juarez, and Jeremy Marquez from the squad to name a full-strength squad for their title defence.
Predicted Lineup: Ochoa; Orozco, Sanchez, Araujo, Reyes, Alvarez, Lira, Alvarado, Gimenez, Jimenez, Huerta.
Dominican Republic
Football betting sites are treating Dominican Republic as the underdogs against the CONCACAF juggernauts, but Los Quisqueyanos have been a commendable unit under Neveleff.
A 4-2 loss to Guatemala is the only loss Dominican Republic have suffered in their last 10 outings. This current crop of Dominican Republic players, widely hailed as the best the nation has produced, breezed through Gold Cup qualifying with six wins from six.
Their World Cup qualifying campaign has been underwhelming, however, as they sit third in Group E (ahead of their clash against Dominica). Dominican Republic will hope to produce a better display in their debut continental finals campaign.
Team News: There have been no recent injuries, so Neveleff should be able to field a full-strength XI against Mexico.
Predicted Lineup: Lloyd; Pujol, De Lucas, Dollenmayer, Castillo, Gonzalez, Lopez, Rosario, Vasquez, Romero, Morschel.
