UEFA Super Cup: PSG vs Tottenham Hotspur- Betting Tips, Odds & Prediction

Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur fly to Udine, Italy this week to feature in UEFA’s traditional season opener. The two teams will lock horns for the UEFA Super Cup title at Stadio Friuli on Thursday morning, New Zealand time.

PSG come into this following a historic treble winning season, while Tottenham enter the fray after ending their 17-year silverware drought by claiming the Europa League title.

PSG

PSG fans saw their club lifting the Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the Champions League trophies last season. A surprise defeat in the Club World Cup final to Chelsea denied them the perfect ending to such a historic campaign, but the Parisians will be happy with what they have achieved under Luis Enrique over the past 12 months. 

Football betting sites are expecting PSG to enjoy another fruitful season as they have managed to keep the core of the team intact. Rumours have swirled about potential departures for some players, but PSG head into this match with their full squad available.

Team News: PSG have added Lucas Chevalier and Illia Zabarnyi to their ranks, but Enrique might not start them on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur 

Tottenham Hotspur is under new management this season even though Ange Postecoglou snapped their dry spell last season with Europa League glory. Thomas Frank can quickly add a trophy to his name as the new Spurs boss if his team manages to beat PSG on Thursday.

The North Londoners are preparing for the Super Cup challenge under far less circumstances, however. Spurs legend Heung-min Son has left the club, James Maddison has suffered a bad injury during the pre-seasons and the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke will also be unavailable. 

As a result, betting apps aren’t showing much optimism for a Tottenham win here. 

Team News: Joao Palhinha should make his first competitive start for the Lilywhites after joining the club this summer from Fulham.

On paper, PSG look almost untouchable. They’ve got the depth, the form, and the pedigree in Europe. Ousmane Dembele has been one of the most exciting attackers to watch in the continent, while the likes of Vitinha, Barcola, and Doue can also make life difficult for Spurs defenders. 

The Tottenham attack, on the other hand, looks lacklustre ahead of this match. Richarlison has rarely been a reliable goalscorer for the North Londoners, the experience of Son will be missing, and there will be no Kulusevski or Maddison to pull the strings behind the forward. 

Tottenham also look vulnerable defensively. Even though friendly match results should not be taken too seriously, it’s telling that Tottenham shipped four goals against Bayern Munich in their last warm-up game. 

We saw Tottenham suffer because of their leaky defence last season, and there’s little evidence to suggest that their backline has improved now. So, this should be a high-scoring win for PSG.
