UCL: Tottenham vs Villarreal - Betting Tips, Odds & Prediction

Both Tottenham and Villarreal will head into this season’s Champions League campaign hoping that they have enough quality to reach the knockout phase of the competition.  As the home team, Spurs will be hoping to build on the momentum they gained by winning last year’s Europa League and get their Champions League campaign off to a winning start. 

Tottenham 

After the chaos of what was the ‘Angeball’ era, Tottenham fans will have been impressed from what they have seen from Thomas Frank so far. With three wins from their first four Premier League games of the season, Spurs look structured and organised and have conceded just the one goal so far this season. They head into this UCL encounter having trounced London rivals West Ham 3-0 and they will hope to kick off their UCL campaign with a victory at home to Villarreal.

Team News: After last year’s injury crisis, Spurs have a relatively clean bill of health with only James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevsk, Dominic Solanke and Radu Dragusin set to miss out with injury. Mathys Tel will be missing from action due to being ineligible for the UCL group phase.

Villarreal 

Despite their size and modest resources in comparison to some of their Spanish resources, Villarreal have long been a team that has punched well above their weight. Having missed out on European competition altogether last season, they are back in Europe’s premier tournament courtesy of their fifth-place league finish. It’s been a solid start to the new season with the yellow submarine picking up seven points through their first four games. They will hope to get their UCL campaign off to a winning start when they make the trip to North London on Tuesday.

Team News: Like Tottenham, Villarreal have a relatively clean bill of health. A decision will need to be made on Gerard Moreno and whether he is fit enough to play some part. It is also worth noting whether Thomas Partey will make a return to North London following well documented off field issues.

• Tottenham have only conceded one goal so far this season. They will be aiking for a fourth clean sheet in Thomas Franks fifth game in charge. 
• Villarreal have never beaten English opposition in the UCL. 
• This will be the first ever competitive meeting between the two sides.
