Norway vs Italy

Thursday July 17, 7am NZT, Stade de Geneve

Norway to Win

Norway and Italy will both be pleased after making it out of the group stages for the first time since 2013. The two-time European champions have claimed all nine available points in the group stages, but football betting sites still see them as the underdogs in their upcoming clash with Italy.

Le Azzurre sit 13th in the latest FIFA rankings, while Norway are 16th. But, after a solid start against Belgium, Italy have failed to impress in their matches with Portugal and Spain. Norway, meanwhile, have seen off Switzerland, Finland, and Iceland. They have shown great resilience in the tournament so far, and we expect them to grind out another victory on Thursday.

Both Teams to Score

Norway may be concerned by their defensive form, as they've conceded five goals in three matches. Only Germany have conceded as many goals as Gemma Grainger’s women among the quarter-finalists. The Norwegian goalkeeper, Cecilie Fiskerstrand, has allowed at least one goal in each of their three matches.

Italy denied Belgium a goal in their opening match, but failed to keep the net from bulging against Portugal and Spain. They have conceded only one goal less than Norway so far. Also, both teams have scored at least once in each of their group matches. Backing both teams to score, therefore, feels like a low-risk anchor for our multi.

Ada Hegerberg to Score

Ada Hegerberg has found the back of the net 22 times in 40 games for Norway, averaging a goal every 133 minutes. Bet365 is offering odds of $3 for the Lyon striker to score anytime against Italy, which seems like a solid bet given the circumstances.

Grainger rested Hegerberg and Graham Hansen for Norway’s final group game against Iceland as a place in the last eight was already guaranteed. But the decision came close to backfiring, as Norway narrowly held on for a 4-3 victory.

Hegerberg scored the opening goal for her side against Switzerland in the first group match. After getting a complete rest, Norway will expect their star striker to fire on all cylinders and get her name on the scoresheet at least once.
