Premier League: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Liverpool in the Premier League at Molineux on Wednesday morning NZT.

On paper, this should be no contest - it’s one of the league’s top sides vs this season’s cellar-dwellers. But Wolves come into this clash with rare momentum after beating Aston Villa over the weekend, while Liverpool have the pressure of needing to win matches like these in order to crack the top four.

Will we see a straight-forward result, or is there a twist coming up that savvy bettors can capitalise on? Come with me as I investigate in this Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool preview. I cover form, stats, and the key absences, before presenting a $3.40 mark bet on one of the best online sports betting platforms that I reckon is a winner.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Analysis

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Relegation is a certainty at this point for Wolverhampton, but there are small signs of life.

Their 2-0 win over third-placed Villa was only the second victory they’ve experienced all season. With 20 goals in 29 league games, they’re still comfortably the lowest scorers in the division, but recent performances have at least been more competitive.

Eight of their 13 points have come at Molineux. Teenager Mateus Mane has been sharp in recent weeks and could cause Liverpool’s makeshift defence issues with his directness. Adam Armstrong has chipped in with two assists since joining in January as well.

Team News: Andre is out injured. Hwang Hee-Chan has been sidelined since January. Tolu Arokodare leads the goals chart with two, supported by Bellegarde and Mane in the attacking band.

Predicted Lineup: Sa; Mosquera, S. Bueno, Toti Gomes; Tchatchoua, Angel Gomes, Joao Gomes, Hugo Bueno; Bellegarde, Mane; Armstrong.

Liverpool

Liverpool’s form has picked up at the right time: four wins from five league matches and a recent 5-2 hammering of West Ham.

Three goals from corners in the first half of that match against West Ham set a new Premier League record for consecutive non-penalty set-piece goals. Hugo Ekitike has been outstanding, with 11 league goals this campaign, and Salah and Gakpo provide constant attacking width.

The only worry for Liverpool coming into this clash is their injury list. Florian Wirtz is doubtful again after missing the last two matches. Isak is still out with a broken leg. Frimpong made his comeback off the bench against West Ham but isn’t fully match fit.

Another interesting trend is that Liverpool have won six of their last 10 away games, but they’ve conceded in the majority of them. I’d suggest keeping an eye on the live betting sites if Wolves get one early.

Team News: Wirtz is doubtful. Isak, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, Stefan Bajcetic, and Wataru Endo are all unavailable. Frimpong is back in the squad but may start on the bench. Szoboszlai should fill the number 10 role.

Predicted Lineup: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Stats and Trends

  • Liverpool have won all five of their last Premier League meetings with Wolves.
  • Each of the last three H2H encounters finished 2-1 to Liverpool.
  • Wolves have scored just 20 goals in 29 league matches this season, the fewest in the division.
  • Liverpool have scored at least two goals in six of their last nine matches across all competitions.
  • Both teams to score has landed in over 60% of Liverpool’s away fixtures this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Prediction

I expect Liverpool to win, but I don’t think it’ll be as comfortable as the table implies it should be.

Wolves showed against Villa that they can compete when they’re switched on. All signs point towards them bringing their best in this clash, given they’re high on confidence and have nothing to lose. Combine that with Liverpool’s mounting injury list, and we’ve got potential for an upset here.

That said, the gulf in quality is huge. Wolves have 20 goals all season. Liverpool put five past West Ham just days ago.

Bottom line, Ekitike, Salah, and Gakpo should create enough to get the job done. I’m backing a 2-1 Liverpool win. If you’re after football tips for this one, the real value sits in the goal markets rather than the outright result.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool - The Ultimate Bet

Liverpool to Win and Both Teams to Score @ $3.40

Wolves will score at some stage, mark my words.

The hosts have looked more competitive in recent weeks, and I’d even go as far as saying their result against Villa was no fluke. Their set-piece delivery has improved, and Molineux has been the one ground where they’ve troubled decent sides. Liverpool, meanwhile, have conceded in the majority of their away matches, and their back line is barely hanging on at the moment.

Liverpool will take all three points, but a clean sheet feels unlikely given how thin they are. At $3.40 on Sportaza, I’m all over this bet this week.
