The beat Saturday racing from New Zealand comes from Ellerslie.

BEST BET – Excite

When it comes to sure fire favourites, few will be as well backed as Excite. Set to jump off as a shade odds-on, the break he experienced before his run at Te Repa clearly put him in good stead as he ran the best race of his career to shed his maiden tag. More can be expected here, and he should follow that performance up.

THE DANGER – Incandescent

Incandescent looks to be the main danger, but he has form to prove having finished behind Excite last time out. He was only just touched off in what was a tight finish and his connections will be hopeful of reversing the form this time around.

VALUE BET – O’baby

Whilst both Excite and Incandescent are both consistent types, we like the fact that O’baby is completely unexposed. A winner at Woodville at the end of April, this is a much tougher assignment, but if she can show the necessary improvement, there is no reason why she can’t compete.

King’s English – 5.50

Arwen – 8.00

BEST BET – Biding My Time

This is her toughest assignment to date, but Biding My Time will be hoping to follow up her victory at the track last time out and produce another positive showing. That win came off the front where she led every step of the way. Whether she will be afforded that luxury remains to be seen.

THE DANGER – King’ English

King’s English drops down from graded company to compete here, and this class dropper has to be respected. The second of his career victories came over the course and look for him to pick up the pieces if the pace collapses.

VALUE BET – Arwen

Arwen could be the value play of the contest. Having just made two starts, she has a win and a third-place effort to her name and looks to be consistent. Those efforts have come in this sort of company and she could still be improving. There is plenty ti like.

Hakushu – 10.00

Durrani – 18.00

BEST BET – Ashoka

The penultimate race of the card looks the most competitive, and Ashoka could be one of the safer plays. Although he has just one win from his eight starts, he is consistent and has finished second in each of his two starts here. Don't be concerned to see him dropped out the back and then make a late dash for home. If the gaps appear or the pace collapses, he will have every chance.

THE DANGER – Hakushu

Hakushu will go off at a double figure price and he could give his backers plenty of value for their money. With three placed efforts in his last four starts, he is gritty but often finds just a couple too strong. This looks wide open and with two placed efforts at this track, he could finally land a long overdue second win.

VALUE BET – Durrani

Whilst there is form to prove, Durrani has to be in with a chance here. She broke her maiden in some style last time she took to the Ellerslie turf and is the only horse to bring in winning form. She will be the pace angle and has proved she can now win from the front. This is tougher, but she could be the value play of the card.
