Elle Sourit will be hugely popular in the betting for the Manco Easter Handicap. Having won four of her first five starts, she was unlucky last time out having just been beaten into second last time out. She could take some beating and could land a first graded contest here.

THE DANGER – December

There are several dangers, but one horse to keep an eye on is December. Although the wins have been hard to come by, he has placed in each of his last three – and has been running well in this sort of company. If it all clicks, he could be hard to pass.

VALUE BET – Cannon Hill

Cannon Hil could be the value play of the race. He has placed at this level and has a fine record at the track having won three times at Ellerslie. He has to be rated as a massive player here.

Crown Princess represents some top-class connections and is looking for the third win of her career. Having placed in her last two starts, she is in good form. Craig Grylls is back in the saddle, and she has to be respected in this field.

THE DANGER – Castle Rock

Castle Rock has to be the main danger. He has won his last two starts and is bidding for a third victory in succession. He has only had one start at the track and failed to place and that is a concern, but conditions will be ideal and he looks to have a huge chance.

VALUE BET – Astarte

Astarte looks to represent some real value and looks to be really niced priced. Her last four runs have seen two seconds and two wins – this will be her first run at the track and she could go well.

BEST BET – Solid Gold

The Trelawney Stud Championship Stakes looks like one of the best races of the day. Although hugely competitive, Solid Gold was a winner at the track last time out and has finished inside the places on two of her other four runs. This is tougher, but she has to be respected.

THE DANGER – Waimea Bay

Waimea Bay is one of several dangers and she deserves a second look. Having had five runs, she has unplaced twice in Grade 2 company but has finished second in this grade. Highly tried she looks more than capable of winning a race of this nature.

VALUE BET – Fortune Cookie

Fortune Cookie is our long shot of the day, and she was a winner last time out Pukekohe Park. This is a step up in class and will require a career best effort to win but her last win showed dramatic improvement and more could come here.
