Saturday Racing Tips - Ellerslie 22/05/26

The best racing in New Zealand this Saturday comes from Ellerslie where the action is headlined by a couple of competitive looking handicaps.

Ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. As well as our exclusive tips we have highlighted three races which look to be the most competitive of the day. Whether you want to back a short priced favourite, or a horse at longer odds, read on as we have every angle covered.

Selections:

Bulgari – 3.20

Yokozuna – 5.00

Accentuate – 5.00

BEST BET – Bulgari

In the third race of the day, Bulgari will start as the tentative favourite and he should be competitive. Having spent the bulk of his career racing in open and graded company, this looks far easier and his second here a week ago is decent form. He takes a step up in distance and that could unlock more.

THE DANGER – Yokozuna

Having just made the four starts, Yokozuna is still relatively unexposed and looks to be the main danger. Having won on debut and then placed third in the Cambridge Stud Northland Breeders Stakes. He has lost his way in his last two starts but if he can produce something close to his first two starts he could upset the odds.

VALUE BET – Accentuate

Every horse in this field has a chance of victory but the value could lie with Accentuate. Another debut winner, she has placed in each of her last two races. She is competitive and should give a good showing here at a bit of a price.

Lupo Solitario – 3.40

El Viento – 6.00

Uderzo – 6.50

BEST BET – Lupo Solitario

In the sixth race of the day, there are several who arrive out of form but Lupo Solitario is the clear exception. The winner of his last two starts, including the Grade 3 Manco Easter Handicap, he beat several rivals here across those two races. A third successive win could well happen.

THE DANGER – El Viento

El Viento could be one of the main dangers to our selection. In his last four starts, he has won two and placed second so arrives in decent enough form. He does have something to find with Lupo Solitario but he represents a great stable and could go close.

VALUE BET – Uderzo

Uderzo finished ahead of El Viento on his last appearance and it’s somewhat of a surprise that they are priced similarly here. He has just had the one start here but he did place. Conditions shouldn’t be a problem and there is plenty to like.

Sweet Smile – 6.00

Overdrawn – 10.00

Scarlet Temple – 12.00

BEST BET – Sweet Smile

In the penultimate race of the day, many will be drawn to Magice, but his form isn’t the best and we like the look of Sweet Smile. A winner of three of his last four, his recent form is hard to ignore. Two of those wins have come at Ellerslie and he could win here yet again.

THE DANGER – Overdrawn

Overdrawn was friendless when he won last time out at Te Repa but the manner of his win was impressive. He has been handed a challenge with a wide draw here but if he can find cover early he should be able to settle early. Look for him to fly home late.

VALUE BET – Scarlet Temple

Scarlet Temple is our value play of the day and like Overdrawn he was a good winner last time out. This is a step up in grade but due to that he is actually carrying less weight than for his victory. He would need to produce a career best but he could be capable of pulling off the upset.
