The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Riccarton Park, where the headline contest is the Canterbury Belle Stakes.

Despite her price, she is the only undefeated filly in the field and she looks like more improvement can come. A winner at the track on her last start, she should love conditions and could definitely outrun her odds.

THE DANGER – Belle Du Monde

Belle Du Monde broke her maiden at the fifth time of asking when winning at the track two weeks ago. That victory underlined her credentials as a classy sort where she had only finished outside of the places on one occasion. Expected to jump off at a short price, it wouldn’t be any surprise if she were to come out on top here.

VALUE BET – Bona Sforza

Bona Sforza will be taking to the track in over two months, but if she is raring to go, she looks to be the undoubted danger. Having won at Listed level previously, she looks a horse going places and her connections will be expecting her to compete in the business stages of the contest.

No matter who you back in the Sefton Tavern Sprint, a leap fo faith will be required as almost every horse in the lineup has form concerns to answer. When it comes to winning strike rates very few can compete with Mystic Park. A winner of almost half his fifteen starts, it’s been three runs since he last tasted victory, but he will be hopeful of changing that here. He’s been off the track since April so has fitness to prove, however a big run can be expected.

THE DANGER – Texas Dolly

Texas Dolly is another who is returning following a long absence but is taking a drop down in class on his return. Compared to Mystic Park she doesn’t have anywhere near the strike rate but is clearly a threat back in this company.

VALUE BET – Perfect Scenario

With many horses having questions to answer, it could be worth taking a chance with Perfect Scenario at a bigger price. No horse in the field has accumulated as much prize money or posted as many wins and although his recent form isn’t much to shout about if he can get it right on the day he will be a danger to all.

In the eighth race of the day Cognito is likely to start as the warm favourite and will have plenty of backers. Having struggled for form, he bounced back with a bang at the course two weeks ago with a good win and his connections will hope he will be able to back that up here.

THE DANGER – Riviera Rebel

There is no guarantee that Cognito will be able to back his win up from a few weeks ago and that certainly opens the door for Riviera Rebel. He should have conditions to suit and only just finished behind Cognito in his last appearance. The tables could be turned here and should be one for the shortlist.

VALUE BET – Bella Luce

If you like to back a horse at a big price, then Bella Luce could be the play. A specialist at the track, few have better Riccarton form. She is coming off a win so confidence should be high. She has form to find with those at the top of the market but is more than capable of running a big race.
