The best racing in New Zealand this Saturday comes from Ruakaka.

BEST BET – Palombaggia

Punters will be hoping that Palombaggia will get them off to the perfect start on Saturday. Unlucky not to have won on her debut, she failed by just under a length and that second at Ellerslie is amongst the best form on offer. With improvement to come, she is the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Watermelon Sugar

Having done most of his racing at metro level, Watermelon Sugar steps away from the city and will hope to land the first race of her career here. She will look to set the fractions and if afforded a soft lead could be hard to pass.

VALUE BET – Time to Aspire

There are many here who arrive woefully out of form or who have had many attempts at shedding that maiden tag. Time to Aspire is one of two newcomers to the race and hails from a yard who know how to get one ready. Whilst this will be tough, he won’t have to be overly special to make the frame. She’s one to watch.

BEST BET – Khaleesi

It could be argued that in the third race of the day, Khaleesi is the classiest horse on the entire card. A winner two of her last three starts, her last fun saw her finish fifth in the Karapiro Classic. She has been off the track for 22 weeks but if fit, she is the one they all need to beat.

THE DANGER – Iridescent

Iridescent will be the danger. A winner last time out at Ellerslie, her winning form stacks up well with Khaleesi. This step away from town has to be seen as a positive and she could well take advantage of any fitness concerns that Khaleesi brings into the contest.

VALUE BET – Nicconi County

Nicconi County brings a wealth of experience into the race. Although not a prolific winner, he did poke his head in front at Ellerslie a few weeks ago. That stacks up well here and another big effort can be expected.

Just A Karin – 8.00

Perfectmanz – 11.00

BEST BET – Fly My Wey

In the penultimate race of the day, Fly My Wey could be the one to back. A veteran of 61 starts, he has been racing lately in open handicap company and is a better horse than the bare form suggests. He won this prep two starts ago and should be raring to go here.

THE DANGER – Just A Karin

One of the dangers could be Just A Karin. Although she isn’t a prolific winner with just two wins in 41 starts, she showed that she might be returning to form with a second place effort last time out. This is harder but she represents a decent price.

VALUE BET – Perfectmanz

Perfectmanz is the outsider in this field but his chances can’t be dismissed. A winner at Te Repa two starts ago, he ran no sort of race when being tailed off in the Rotorua Cup. If that last run can be forgotten his price could look vastly inflated. The market might not suggest he has much of a chance, but a repeat of his Te Repa effort could see him go close.
