Some of the best racing in New Zealand this Saturday comes from Tauranga where the action is headlined by the Tauranga Classic.

Ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. BEST BET – Tristar

Despite the presence of Platinum Diamond who might jump off as the favourite, Tristar is our best bet for the Tauranga Classic. A winner here at the past, she comes into this race bang in form following a taking victory last time out at Te Repa. This is actually a step down in class from that win and she looks to have a live chance.

THE DANGER – Churchillian

Churchillian could be the main danger here. Somewhat of a track specialist she has two wins from three starts here and landed her second Group 3 victory last month at Arawa Park. She is running well and can’t be dismissed.

VALUE BET – Grande Gallo

Our value play of the race is Grande Gallo. She finished ahead of the opposing Honey Badger last time out to win at Te Aroha and that form stacks up nicely here. The more rain that falls, the better her chances and she is definitely one to keep an eye out for in the betting.

BEST BET – Quondo

In the second race of the day Quondo will hope to get favourite backers off to a good start. This race looks ideal for him. Relatively lightly raced in comparison to most in this lineup, he won well at Matamata last time out and is the one they all need to beat here.

THE DANGER – Prudentia

Prudentia could be the danger. She has two wins from nine starts with one of those coming here. This is a step down in clsss as connections look to get her back on the scoresheet following two average runs. If on her best form she should be right in the mix.

VALUE BET – Oratia Beauty

If looking for a player at a price then Oratia Beauty could be the one to back. Another class dropper she brings in some graded form which is amongst the best form on offer here. She has been well drawn and could find this race being perfectly set up. She can’t be ignored.

BEST BET – Opressor

The third race of the day is arguably the most competitive of the day and there is plenty of value that can be found. Opressor will start as the favourite and there is plenty to like. An improving horse, this will be just his fourth start and he already has one win and a placed effort last time out at Ellerslie. This is easier than his last efforts and he should be in the mix.

THE DANGER – Opea Joe

Opea Joe could be the danger. Hugely experienced, he looked back to his best when dominating the field five days ago at Te Aroha. Conditions will be ideal here and the heavier the track, the better his chances.

VALUE BET – Poppa Dennis

Poppa Dennis returns to a more reasonable level of racing having been recently tried in higher company. A winner five starts ago, he has struggled of late, but a third place finish at Te Repa offers plenty of encouragement and he could well follow that up here now eased in grade. One to watch.
