The Te Aroha card this Sunday is headlined by several competitive handicap races.

Ahead of this and the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

BEST BET – Lord Spencer

In the fifth race of the day Lord Spencer will be popular in the betting. Unlucky not to have won last time out at Te Aroha, he was successful at Woodville three starts ago and returns to that grade here. He is expected to jump off as the overwhelming favourite and is the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Leitrim Lad

Leitrim Lad arrives out of form but connections will be hoping he can get back on track eased down in grade. He loves it around here and has two wins from two starts, a return to this track could be just what he needs.

VALUE BET – Zac Flash

Although he only has one win from 21 starts, Zac Flash can’t be slept on. Another who boasts a good track record with three placed efforts from four runs, he will be the pace angle and could be hard to peg back if afforded a soft time out in front.

Carignan – 5.50

Outer Focus – 11.00

BEST BET – My Maebelline Girl

Having won in convincing fashion at the track last time out, My Maebelline Girl will have plenty of followers who will believe that she can follow up here. Likely to hit the front early, she will look to wind up the pace and has plenty to like.

THE DANGER – Carignan

The main danger is Carignan. Although yet to win or place here, he produced a good run last time out whilst placing third at Trentham. This is easier and a big run can be expected.

VALUE BET – Outer Focus

Many arrive here out of form but Outer Focus could be one at a price to follow, a good second at Waipukurau six weeks ago wasn’t followed up last time at Wanganui. This is easier and a return to form could be likely, although he is carrying more weight than for that recent placed effort.

Mobilized – 4.80

King Cabal – 17.00

BEST BET – Playinasandpit

In comparison to most in this lineup Playinasandpit arrives into this race unexposed and could still have plenty of improvement to come. Placed in two of his four starts that is amongst the best form on offer and he won’t have a better chance to get off the mark.

THE DANGER – Mobilized

The danger is likely to come from Mobilized. An eight runner maiden, he has finished third on four separate occasions and certainly has a chance to get that elusive victory. This is an easier task than his last few races and he can’t be written off.

VALUE BET – King Cabal

With the bulk of this field being hugely exposed finding one at a price to back isn’t the easiest assignment, however King Cabal could potentially play a part. Whilst he was a faller last time out, his second three starts ago is a decent bit of form in this context. A repeat of that could see him in the mix.
