The Oamaru card this Sunday is headlined by several competitive handicap races.

Ahead of this and the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

Undisputed – 2.10

Graeme John – 5.50

Express Coup – 10.00

BEST BET – Undisputed

In the eighth race of the day it’s hard to look past the chances of Undisputed. It could be argued that he is the form horse of the entire card, entering this race having won his last four. He has won competitive races of this nature and on plenty of different surfaces. There really is plenty to like.

THE DANGER – Graeme John

A winner four starts ago, Graeme John is one of the highest rated horses in the field. Having found life difficult in open handicap company of late, he takes a step down in grade and trip here and that could see him run a big race.

VALUE BET – Express Coup

There are a few last time out winners in the lineup with one of them being Express Coup. A winner here a month ago, conditions will be similar once more. Despite this being harder, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him be in the hunt for the places.

Quinto – 3.40

Tavi Ann – 3.70

Lovelock – 10.00

BEST BET – Quinto

In the second race of the day Quinto sets the standard. Boasting a successful 60% place rate, he has two placed efforts in his last three and was only just denied at Wingatui at the end of June. A repeat will see him bang in contention.

THE DANGER – Tavi Ann

Tavi Ann could start as the favourite, despite her not being as consistent as Quinto. This represents a small step down in class and her mark is sliding so she has less weight to carry here than some of her rivals. With her now weighted to win, this could be the opportunity for her to land a fourth career success.

VALUE BET – Lovelock

Lovelock looks to be the value play of the contest. A winner three starts ago, he has ran creditably twice after and could go close here. His recent form shouldn’t put you off as some of that has come in a higher grade, conditions should be perfect for a big effort.

Shawshank – 8.50

Atullibigeal – 10.00

Tralee Bay – 18.00

BEST BET – Shawshank

Without doubt, the sixth race of the day looks to be the most competitive but there is plenty around. Shawshank, was a winner last time out at Ashburton a few weeks ago and he did it nicely. Ash Strawbridge retains the ride and despite a wide draw, he should have the speed to be up with their principles. He will hold every chance.

THE DANGER – Atullibigeal

He might be best watched, but Atullibigeal is a massive eye catcher in this field. Having done all of his racing in Hong Kong, this will be his first start for new connections and we have seen that Hong Kong form can translate well in New Zealand. The concern is that this is his first run for 35 weeks and he could be rusty. It will be fascinating to see how he goes.

VALUE BET – Tralee Bay

Tralee Bay is our long shot of the day and he will have a chance. A winner at Wingatui three starts ago, his last two races have come in a higher grade. A return to this level has to be seen as a major plus and he is another who could run very well. He can’t be dismissed.
