The Tauherenikau card this Sunday is headlined by several competitive handicap races.

Ahead of this and the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

Brutiful Lass – 3.30

Presence of Mind – 4.80

Swiffty – 8.00

BEST BET – Brutiful Lass

Brutiful Lass will be popular in the betting and is one of our best bets of the day. A seven run maiden, she has placed in six of those starts and has hit the crossbar on four occasions. Her time must be close and this is where she can get off the mark.

THE DANGER – Presence of Mind

Presence of Mind represents some top class connections and will be seeking a first overdue win. Two placed efforts in five starts show that she is capable and she takes a drop down in class in order to try and land that first victory.

VALUE BET – Swiffty

Swiffty could be the value play of the race. A three run maiden, she was unlucky last time out not to have won when a runner up at Wanganui, this is tougher but she can’t be discounted.

Kosta – 4.80

Dollybird – 6.00

BEST BET – Lucullan

In the seventh race of the card, Lucullan will take plenty of the beating. A winner at Wanganui four weeks ago, he has been kept up to his work and has had three runs since, two of which have seen him place. This looks a good opportunity to get back inside the winner’s circle and a bold bid can be anticipated.

THE DANGER – Kosta

Many of these arrive out of form but one horse that could pose a problem is Kosta. Third last time out at Trentham, he has had nine weeks off and is taking a drop down in class. If ready to race he could go close.

VALUE BET – Dollybird

Dollybird returns to her optimum trip and is another who will hope a small layoff will see her bounce back to form. Likely to be the pace angle, if offered a soft lead she could be hard to peg back.

Billy – 5.00

Vincero – 23.00

BEST BET – Turfquake

After two placed efforts from four starts, connections of Turfquake will hope that this is finally the time where their charge gets off the mark. Despite just missing out, his form is up there with some of the best in this field and he should go close once more.

THE DANGER – Billy

Billy could be a real danger. Although yet to win in nine starts, he was unlucky last time out when finishing second at Wanagnui a few weeks ago. This should be easier and he can’t be ruled out.

VALUE BET – Vincero

Vincero is our long shot of the day and although he is one of the outsiders in the first race, he could be competitive. Having just raced three times, improvement could still come and his best effort to date came at this track when he was just beaten in a similar grade. He isn’t without a hope.
