Sunday Racing Tips - Te Aroha 20/09/26

The Great New Zealand Jumps Carnival concludes at Te Aroha this Sunday, with seven competitive races making up an excellent card. The headline contest of the day is the Ben & Ryan Foote Racing Great New Zealand Steeplechase.

Ahead of this and the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

BEST BET – Trainwreck

Our best features in the final race of the day where Trainwreck could be the horse to send punters home happy. He has finished runner-up on his last two starts and was only denied by a narrow margin at Wanganui last time. He drops in grade here and is drawn well, he should have the opportunity to get into a prominent position and could be difficult to peg back if afforded the lead.

THE DANGER – Gold Card

Gold Card looks the obvious threat. His form has steadily improved and he finished second at Ruakaka on his most recent start. A favourable draw in two should help and Corey Wiles’ 3kg claim brings his effective weight down. If Trainwreck doesn’t get things his own way, Gold Card could be the one to pick up the pieces.

VALUE BET – Koro’s Princess

Koro’s Princess could be worth backing at a price.. Four starts ago she won over this course and distance and has gone onto compete at a higher level. She finished fourth here over 1400m two starts ago and has the plum inside draw this time. A return to this track and a drop in grade could see her outrun her odds.

BEST BET – Lord Spencer

Lord Spencer has won four of his last five races, including the Grand National Steeplechase two starts ago. He had four weeks off and was poor, however that run could have warmed him up for this assignment and he can’t be slept on.

THE DANGER – Christmas

Christmas is one of many dangers and he will hope to land a blow here. A winner at Casterton five weeks ago, he wasn’t disgraced in the Ecycle Solutions Grand National Steeplechase last time out. He should be one for the shortlist.

VALUE BET – Zee Heights

Zee Heights could be the value play of the race. He has a win and a place from two of his last three races. This represents a big step up in class but he usually gives his running and can’t be dismissed.

Fleur De Champ – 9.50

Heza Warrior – 10.00

BEST BET – The Finnster

In race 2 the Finnster could be dangerous. He won impressively at Wanganui two starts ago but couldn’t back that up in a higher grade last time out. He now switches back to hurdles, where he remains inexperienced, but he should love the heavy ground with all six of his career wins coming in those conditions.

THE DANGER – Fleur De Champ

Fleur De Champ could be a danger. She has three placed efforts from her last four starts and she receives weight from her rivals. Although she hasn’t been winning of late, she’s been consistent and should run well once again.

VALUE BET – Heza Warrior

Heza Warrior is our long shot here. He arrives in excellent form having won his latest outing here. That victory came over 3100m, so both the course and distance should hold no fears. He has been consistent this campaign and looks capable of taking another big step forward.
