Sunday Racing Tips - Waverley 27/09/26

The Waverley card this Sunday is headlined by several competitive handicap races.

Ahead of this and the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

BEST BET – Performer

In race 4, the combination of Craig Grylls and Performer will prove to be popular. Having made three starts, he has two seconds and was able to shed his maiden tag at Pukekura three weeks ago. There is plenty to like about his chances and he sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Sierra Leone

The danger is likely to come from Sierra Leone. A winner of two of her fifteen starts, she has been highly thought of judged by her entry into the Wellington Guineas where she ran respectfully. She returned to action four weeks ago with a good win at Awapuni and she will hope to build on that here.

VALUE BET – Pinky Pie

At a price Pinky Pie could be the value play. The most experienced horse in the field, the penny seems to have dropped of late. A winner two starts ago at Awapuni, she was then beaten by Sierra Leone on her last start. There wasn’t a tonne between them and connections will hope to overturn that result here.

BEST BET – Makarov

Craig Grylls will again be a popular jockey to follow in the seventh race as Makarov bids for a second career win. A winner on debut at Hastings five weeks ago, this is a similar assignment and he will be hopeful of keeping his unbeaten streak in place.

THE DANGER – Da Ace

There are many dangers in this contest and Da Ace is one of them. A winner of one of his ten starts, he returned from an eleven week break with a mediocre run at Te Repa. Connections will hope he is far fitter here and a return to the form he showed at Tauranga, where he was a winner could be in the offing.

VALUE BET – Magician

Magician is a big price but can’t be discounted. After running three disappointing races, he took a massive leap forward when resuming after 18 months to win at Wanganui. The break and a move to Erin Hocquard seems to have worked wonders and he could go well again.

Heza Monty – 8.50

Al Passo – 18.00

BEST BET – Valley King

Punters will hope to go home happy in the final race and Valley King will prove to be a popular play. Boasting 20% win rate, he steps away from non-metro racing and this easier grade could see him return to winning ways for the first time in three starts.

THE DANGER – Heza Monty

In a deep looking race, there are several potential dangers and Heza Monty could be one of them. He has only made seven starts and but has won and placed in three of them. There is a small concern that a 20 week break could make life tricky here but if fit enough he could be enough.

VALUE BET – Al Passo

Al Passo could be a player at a price and is our value play. A winner of two of his seven starts, he has done the bulk of his running at Awapuni so will encounter new conditions here. He will be up with the speed and if good enough he could well be in the mix and outrun his odds.
