Another chance is taken on Petit Rocher. Having failed in her last start at Matamata when heavy favourite at Matamata, she started poorly that time but was gaining on the line. Craig Grylls is in the saddle and a better run can be expected this time around.

THE DANGER – Flyhalf

The danger will come from Flyhalf. Yet to finish outside of the places on all three of her starts, a race of this nature looks firmly in her grasp. With conditions to suit she could jump as the favourite and will take some stopping.

VALUE BET – She Means Business

If Petit Rocher’s form isn’t for you, you could side with the Walker and Bergerson second string. She Means Business has just had the one start but the stables runners usually come on for their second run and she could be player at the price.

Campbell Infrastructure Handicap (1950m)

Selections:

Bassoroc – 2.70

Affordable – 4.80

Air Dancer – 8.50

BEST BET – Bassoroc

In a race that won’t require a load of winning, the safe bet could be with Bassoroc. Although her last win came almost a year ago, her last three efforts have seen her finish in the places and compared to the majority of this field, that is the strongest piece of form on offer. She could be hard to pass.

THE DANGER – Affordable

In what is an open contest, the danger could well come from Affordable. He is a mud lover and will have the perfect conditions, he has had a run when finishing only a few lengths back at Wingatui – he has won when making his second start of the season and despite his lack of winning form, there is plenty to like.

VALUE BET – Air Dancer

Value could very much be the play in this contest and Air Dancer could be the one to back. Having only won one of his twelve starts he almost added a second when falling to a narrow defeat last time out. He returns to his optimal distance and could be worth a market check.

BEST BET – Rumours

In the final race of the day Rumours could send punters home happy. Having not shown much in his first two starts, it all clicked when winning convincingly at Matamata last time out. That form sets the standard here.

THE DANGER – Portland

There are a host of dangers to the selection but at a bit of a price Portland could be worth acknowledging. It took eleven starts but she dominated the field at Hawera to get off the mark and it could be that the penny has finally dropped. She is consistent with five seconds from her first ten starts and is clearly capable of running a big race.

VALUE BET – Perugia

Perugia is our value play and she could play a part here. A win at Waverley two starts ago couldn’t be backed up a few weeks later but she had excuses. She will be the pace angle and of afforded a soft lead could be hard to reel in.
