In the sixth race of the day, Scolera will have plenty of backers. Unlikely to jump as the favourite, she won three starts ago but found life tricky at a mero grade over her last two starts. She returns to an easier grade here and could be tough to stop.

THE DANGER – Angels Brew

Likely to start as the favourite is Angels Brew. Unexposed to the other horses in the race, she took a huge jump from her debut, routing the field at this track last time out. This is deeper but she could be the best in this field if managing a repeat of that last run.

VALUE BET – Brazen Affair

Representing top class connections, Brazen Affair could be the value play of the contest. A veteran of this track and surface, nine of her sixteen starts have come here and that has resulted in three wins, three second place efforts and two thirds. She is ideally drawn and there is plenty to like.

Melkor – 6.50

Orange River – 6.50

BEST BET – Rosina

Having gone eight starts without a victory, Rosina looks to have been spotted a golden opportunity to get back on the on winning trail. Since that win, she has placed on five separate occasions, including here. This also represents a small drop-in class and she sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Melkor

On form it looks like the main danger is likely to come from Melkor. Having just won one of his fourteen starts, that doesn’t inspire a great deal of confidence, but he finished fourth here last time out and he could well build on that.

VALUE BET – Orange River

With the bulk of this field arriving woefully out of form, Orange River could represent some value. She has placed in two of her last four starts including last time out at Awapuni Park and she should like the surface here. A big run can be expected.

BEST BET – Delz Abeel

The final race of the card looks the most competitive with several in with a chance of winning. Delz Abeel has three wins at the track and makes obvious appeal. The wins have been hard to come by, but he is a solid operator at this level and with track conditions likely to suit, he is one for the watchlist.

THE DANGER – What A Yarn

What A Yarn could be a danger at a price. With two wins from his last three, including here, there is a lot to like. He can’t be discounted despite his price.

VALUE BET – Mister Meaner

Mister Meaner is our long shot of the day and there is plenty to like as he is another who heads to the track in good recent form. A second place at Hawera a month ago stacks up nicely and with further rest and less weight to carry, he could go well.
