BEST BET – Fortune Asia

Fortune Asia is likely to be the heavy favourite for the second race of the day and there is plenty to like. A winner on his last start at the track, he is unexposed to most in this field and further improvement could be forthcoming. He did it nicely last time out and he sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Altiplano

It is unlikely that you will find an unluckier horse on this entire card than Altiplano. A twelve runner maiden, he has finished second on six different occasions - which includes four seconds in his last five starts. He seems to bump into one each time he takes the track but there seems to be few dangers here. He deserves to win and this could finally be his day.

VALUE BET - Madame Kleptomane

The value could lie with Madame Kleptomane. A last time out winner here, she pipped Altiplano in that race and connections will hope she repeats the feat here. Hayley Hassman offsets any rise in weight and she should run another big race.

Caldwell Mortgage Advisers Handicap (2000m)

Just A Karin – 12.00

BEST BET – Skymax

It’s taken a bit of time, but the penny seems to have finally dropped with Skymax. A winner of her last two starts, both of her wins have come at the track and she seems to be thriving. She is exposed and there is no guarantee that she will make it three in a row but she sets an impressive standard.

THE DANGER – Prisca

Prisca could be the main danger here. She broke a long losing run when winning well at Tauranga and she could end up running another big race here. This is actually a small drop in class and although she is carrying more weight, she has won here in the past and could go well once again.

VALUE BET – Just A Karin

At a nice double figure price Just A Karin makes some appeal. She has had four runs at the track which has seen her win and record a second place. She returns to an easier grade of racing after struggling last time out. If you can forgive that last run, a big run could be expected.

Lord Jimmy – 15.00

In the fifth race of the day Reptak will be popular. Although it's been a year since he last won, he has been knocking on the door lately and the soft conditions should suit him. There is some stiff competition but he should go close.

THE DANGER – Perfect Dividends

Perfect Dividends could go off as the favourite and will be a huge contender here. He has track experience having won and placed third from his two starts. His form at this level is competitive and he should be bang in the mix.

VALUE BET – Lord Jimmy

Lord Jimmy is our long shot of the day and although he hasn’t been winning, he has competed in some hot races of late. This is easier than some of his recent races and the conditions should be perfect. If there is a pace collapse, he could well pick up the pieces.
