Selections:

Hi Yo Fox Rox – 2.60

Ryders Legacy – 4.40

Croix De Guerre – 6.00

BEST BET – Hi Yo Fox Rox

Our best bet comes from race 4 where we think Hi Yo Fox Rox could take a big step forward moved up in trip. Having won two of his five career starts to date, his last run was over much shorter than the 2100 metres he will be trying here. He has won over 2000m and connections will feel the step up should unlock even more.

THE DANGER – Ryders Legacy

Ryders Legacy headlines the list of dangers. Slightly more experienced than Hi Yo Fox Rox, he has two winners from his seven starts and is another stepping up in trip. He has a bit of stamina to prove having run up to 1800 metres so far in his young career. However, if he can cope with the rise here, he should be in the mix.

VALUE BET – Croix De Guerre

With two wins in his last two starts, Croix De Guerre has to be respected. Both of those wins have come on a synthetic surface so whether he can translate that form onto the turf remains to be seem. He is another rising in distance today.

Selections:

Satomi – 2.70

Written In Rock – 6.00

Hill Billy – 7.50

BEST BET – Satomi

In race 1 many will be attracted by the chances of Satomi. A fourteen-runner maiden, on paper that doesn’t inspire a tonne of confidence, however he heads into this contest fresh off the back of three second place efforts. Connections have freshened him up for this assignment, and the hope is that the six-week break will see him have enough juice to get over the line here.

THE DANGER – Written In Rock

Written In Rock could be the alternative play if you want to bet against Satomi. An 18 runner maiden, things seem to have finally clicked and he heads into this contest off the back of two seconds on the synthetic at Awapuni. Translating that back to the turf could be a challenge but he has to be respected.

VALUE BET – Hill Billy

Whereas both Satomi and Written In Rock have had several attempts at trying to get over the line. Hill Billy has just had five races and could be the improver. One of those five runs has seen him place and he drops in weight for this assignment. Should be one for the shortlist.

Selections:

Testing – 4.20

Trainwreck – 10.00

The Magician – 26.00

BEST BET – Testing

One of the most competitive races of the day looks to be race seven. Where several can win, Testing is likely to be one of the main fancies. Taking a step down from non-metro racing, she is well drawn and takes to a distance she should relish. Her form can be poked at, but she is the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Trainwreck

With so many able to win a race of this nature, the chances of Trainwreck can’t be ignored. He has two seconds in his last three races and starts for a new trainer here. Carrying 15kg less here, there is plenty to like about his chances and he should be able to compete despite his big prices.

VALUE BET – The Magician

The Magician, is our long shot of the day. A slow start to his career, was turned around by a victory at Wanganui in August. A line will need to be drawn through his last start where he faded to finish well down the field, however, if he gets it right he could find himself right in the mix.
