Meet Jack Hartman

From an early age, Jack has always had a passion for horse racing. With a love of horses passed down through the generations and a passion for writing, Jack has interviewed some of the top trainers and jockeys from the UK, Dubai, and the Middle East.

Having spent some time in New Zealand and Australia, Jack is no stranger to the racing scene on the continent and is here to offer his expertise from the very best racing that New Zealand has to offer every Wednesday and Saturday.

Jack has been a writer with us for three years and has produced well over 100 horse racing articles. With almost every track covered during that time and jockey and trainer spotlights being presented on all of New Zealand’s premier horse racing characters and figureheads.

Jack has also written soccer, American Football and basketball articles.

Jack's Writing Philosophy

With a sport like horse racing, the devil is in the detail, and that is how Jack approaches his writing.

Constantly checking conditions, trainer form, jockey form and the very latest trends, Jack looks beyond the short, priced favourites and tries to find value wherever he can.  There is always an angle that can be found, and Jack tries his best to find it.

Q&A with Jack Hartman

Attending Royal Ascot and getting to see the wonderful Frankie Dettori in action first hand.

As a Tottenham fan I have always admired Harry Kane, whilst it was sad to lose him to Bayern Munich, it’s great to see the world now recognise his amazing talent.

I have always been a fan of flat racing and love it when the world’s best horses meet – the Breeders’ Cup is often special and I also love to see European trainers take on the challenge of sending horses to Australia to try and win the Melbourne Cup.

Aiden O’Brien is a favourite trainer of mine. The longevity and consistent success that he has been able to achieve is nothing short of remarkable, and it looks like it will continue for years to come.

Really look at conditions, with tracks in New Zealand often taking place on soft or heavy tracks, really delve into the detail as to who may love the conditions and who may not.
