New Zealand vs India - Cricket Betting Tips

The visitors managed to squeak away with a win in Game 2 on a rain-affected day, winning by just four runs after the DLS method was applied. Now in a 0-2 hole, can the Black Caps get a win to keep the series alive? The BettingTop10 team walks you through everything you should know for this match.

News Highlights

  • India’s top order finally came under pressure in Game 2, with Jacob Duffy dismissing Shubman Gill for a golden duck, and Virat Kohli not that long later.
  • Devon Conway has now been officially ruled out of the entire ODI series with a concussion, and Nick Kelly comes into the squad as his replacement.
  • Once again, we could see a rain-affected game in New Zealand, with a 97% chance of rain throughout the day (and a high/ low of 18°C/16°C).

New Zealand’s batters looked very shaky in the first innings. But, as they all say, never judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it. India also had a lot of difficulty batting on the Wellington pitch, and it honestly looked like New Zealand were in with a chance. But then the rain came, and after the DLS method was applied, India won by just four runs!

Team Form, Key Players & Tactics

New Zealand

The Blacks Caps have their backs against the wall in Game 3. They have to win this match if they want to keep their hopes of winning the series alive. They did come very close in Game 2, and could very well have turned it around if the rain didn’t come. But at the end of the day, it’s still a loss in the books.

The batters struggled massively on this pitch, so the partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Mitch Santner was particularly impressive. Other than Henry Nicholls, no other batter managed double digits. While it was a difficult pitch, this is something particular that the Black Caps need to work on for this game.

Building more partnerships and sharing the batting load is something we’ve seen them struggle with in this series (and also the T20I series as well). India’s bowlers boast an impressive pace attack, so patience will be needed. Treat the good balls with respect and put the bad balls away.

India

In the first innings of Game 2, it looked like India was going to wipe the floor with New Zealand once again. However, the Indian batters also struggled on the Wellington pitch. They were pretty lucky to walk away with the win in the end. They just need one more win to secure an ODI series victory.

After taking four wickets for just 30 runs, Gurnoor Brar impressed many. In total, Brar has claimed seven wickets across the first two matches, and it looks like he is loving the conditions in New Zealand. King Kohli could only muster up seven runs, and we all know you can’t keep him down for long.

A lot of focus has been on the batters so far throughout India’s tour, but it’s been the bowlers that have really stood up as of late. India lost seven wickets in Game 2 when chasing a small total, so they’ll have to be more disciplined coming into this one. If one of the top three can fire, New Zealand could be in trouble.

New Zealand vs India Key Stats

India have a 3-2 record over New Zealand in the last five ODIs played, dating back to January 2026. As we already know, India has already won the first two games in this series. New Zealand have now lost their last three ODIs, two to India, and then another to the West Indies in July. On the flip side, India have won four of their last five ODIs.

The most vital trends that you should be aware of leading into this match:

  • With the chance of rain so high for this game, batting second could provide a significant advantage, as the team knows what the DLS par score to target is.
  • New Zealand have a decent record against India at Seddon Park. They chased down 347 in 2020 and then in 2019, they bowled out India for just 92.
  • The average first-innings score at Seddon Park is 264 across 23 ODIs from 2007 to 2025. However, with rain around, this could impact the flow of the scoring.

Our Cricket Betting Predictions

My cricket betting tip last time out was for India to win, and that came off: just. But what about this game? Well, I think New Zealand is in with a big chance. They were unlucky last time out, and that probably left a bitter taste in their mouths.

However, my focus is on the century betting market. With rain expected to impact this game, it will likely have a knock-on impact on scoring flow. So, I don’t believe a century will be scored in this game, and with the market currently offering $2.45, that’s too good to pass up!

Take no century to be scored @ $2.45.

Final Words

This could be a stop-start affair with rain around. Hopefully, we can still get a full game in, and for New Zealand fans, the Black Caps can finally notch up a win. They got close in Game 2, so they are moving in the right direction. For those looking to place a bet or two on this clash, it’s a good idea to look around for any betting promotions first. This can help you get more bang for your buck!
