Brazil vs Morocco Prediction

Group C’s headline act arrives on Sunday morning New Zealand time when Brazil and Morocco collide at MetLife Stadium in the first meaningful test of either side’s World Cup campaign.

In this Brazil vs Morocco preview, I break down form, squad depth and the key absences that could shape this one. I’ve also got a goals-market angle at over $3.00 for those scanning football betting options ahead of kick-off.

Brazil vs Morocco Analysis

Brazil

Carlo Ancelotti’s side scored eight goals across their final two warmup friendlies. Vinicius Junior opened the scoring against Panama inside two minutes before the hosts equalised through an own goal. Casemiro restored the lead before half-time, and Brazil ran out 6-2 winners. Against Egypt, Endrick came off the bench to score the winner in a 2-1 victory.

I’m cautious, though. A 1-2 loss to France in March exposed problems in transition, and the French punished Brazil on the counter with alarming ease.

Neymar is the narrative, but it’s the cumulative effect of the missing attackers that concerns me more. Estevao and Rodrygo are both out of the tournament with injuries. Militao won’t travel either. Neymar’s calf issue likely rules him out until the Haiti match at the earliest, according to multiple reports.

Raphinha and Vinicius will be the ones creating almost everything in attack. If Morocco’s defence can frustrate them early, Brazil don’t have the depth off the bench they would’ve had at full strength.

Team News: Neymar is out with a calf injury and isn’t expected to feature. Estevao and Rodrygo are both absent from the tournament. Militao is also missing after thigh surgery. Wesley withdrew and was replaced by Atalanta’s Ederson.

Predicted Lineup: Alisson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Alex Sandro; Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes; Raphinha, Matheus Cunha, Vinicius Jr; Igor Thiago.

Morocco

Morocco arrive as AFCON champions, even if the title came through a CAF appeals decision after Senegal’s players walked off in the January final.

That controversy, combined with a coaching change in March, would’ve rattled most squads. Mohamed Ouahbi, who won the U-20 World Cup with Morocco last year, has had just three months to prepare for the biggest stage.

I’ve been impressed with their form regardless.

Unbeaten in 2026, with Brahim Diaz scoring five goals across the pre-tournament schedule. I watched the Norway friendly and Morocco were comfortable for over an hour before Ouahbi emptied the bench and Martin Odegaard equalised late.

Abde Ezzalzouli’s reported MCL sprain from that Norway game is a serious concern. Without his pace off the left, Morocco lose one of their best counter-attacking weapons. Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui provide the experienced defensive spine, and Sofyan Amrabat will dictate the midfield tempo.

But this is a side that’s been through upheaval over the past six months - new coach, controversial AFCON, and a key attacker down before the first ball is kicked.

Team News: Ezzalzouli is a major doubt with a knee injury sustained against Norway. Hakimi and Aguerd have minor fitness concerns but are expected to start.

Predicted Lineup: Bounou; Hakimi, Aguerd, Saiss, Mazraoui; Amrabat, Ounahi; El Khannouss, Brahim Diaz, Rahimi; El Kaabi.

Brazil vs Morocco Stats and Trends

  • Brazil won their only previous World Cup meeting with Morocco, a 3-0 group stage victory in 1998.
  • Morocco beat Brazil 2-1 in a March 2023 friendly in Tangier.
  • Brazil have scored in all four matches in 2026, netting 12 goals.
  • Morocco conceded just one goal across their entire World Cup qualifying campaign.
  • Morocco’s AFCON campaign produced Under 2.5 goals in six of seven matches.

Brazil vs Morocco Prediction

I’m tipping Brazil, but I don’t expect them to pull away.

Morocco’s defensive organisation has been well-drilled for years regardless of who’s coaching, and Hakimi and Mazraoui give them outlets on both flanks even when they’re defending deep.

Without Neymar, the creative burden falls on two players. Against a side that won’t panic and will happily absorb 55% possession, that could mean frustration for long stretches. I see Brazil nicking this 1-0, possibly 2-1 if Morocco push numbers forward late.

For those comparing odds across the best betting sites in NZ ahead of the World Cup, the goals markets feel sharper than the match result here.

Brazil vs Morocco - The Ultimate Bet

Brazil Win and Under 2.5 Goals @ $3.20

Morocco don’t concede cheaply. There’s been just one goal allowed in qualifying, and their AFCON run produced just five goals against across seven games. Even without Ezzalzouli, they’re disciplined enough to frustrate Brazil for long periods.

I expect this to be cagey - a narrow Brazil win with two or fewer goals in the match is where I’m putting my money.

At $3.20 on free bets pages across New Zealand’s top sportsbooks, I’m happy to back it.
