City won the Carabao Cup two weeks ago, beating Arsenal 2-0 at Wembley through Nico O’Reilly’s double. City looked sharp that day, and now that the Champions League is done for them, this competition is a real target. Erling Haaland has 22 Premier League goals this season and scored a penalty winner at Anfield back in February.

Liverpool are fifth in the table and haven’t won in three league games. They lost at Wolves and Brighton either side of the break, with Mohamed Salah missing that Brighton defeat through injury. I can’t see where a result comes from here.

Chelsea have lost four on the bounce and haven’t scored in three consecutive matches. But look at who those results came against – PSG in the Champions League, Newcastle and Everton in the league. This is Port Vale, 24th in League One and winless in 11.

I’m reading nothing into Chelsea’s wobble here. A home FA Cup tie against third-tier opposition is exactly the kind of fixture that turns things around. Port Vale’s journey to the quarter-finals has been a great story, but the gap between these two is enormous.

Arsenal lead the Premier League by nine points with 21 wins from 31 games. They’ve scored 61 goals – the most in the division – and Viktor Gyokeres leads their scoring with 11. Mikel Arteta rotated through the earlier rounds, beating Portsmouth, Wigan and Mansfield without his strongest XI, so fresh legs shouldn’t be an issue.

Southampton are eighth in the Championship. They were unbeaten in 11 league games before losing at Blackburn, and Adam Armstrong has 11 goals this season. They’ll fancy their chances at home.
