Saturday Racing Tips - Te Repa 27/09/25

The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Te Reap, where the headline contest of the card is the Group 1 Howden Insurance Mile.

Legarto is a multiple Group 1 winning horse and unlike some of his rivals should relish the soft underfoot conditions. Whilst his return to action in the Proisir Plate didn’t go quite to plan, it was clear he needed the run and should find himself bang in contention this time around.

THE DANGER – La Crique

Whereas Legarto struggled to make an impression in the Proisir Plate, La Crique certainly made his impact known and was unlucky not to have come out on top. His second place effort is amongst some of the best recent form in the field and as long as the ground isn’t too heavy, he has another live chance here.

VALUE BET – Quintessa

In a race packed with talent, Quintessa could be the best value play. The winner of the Proisir Plate, that was a shock and there are valid question marks as to whether that form can be backed up here. Clearly thriving, her current price could look silly if she goes in again.

In the Group 2 Timberspan Hawke’s Bay Guineas, it could be worth siding with experience and in He Who Dares, he is a runner that certianly has it. Tried at the highest level, he has alos placed in Group 3 company. Whilst this race will take plenty of winning, he has shown he has the capabilities to land a race of this kind and keep his career moving forward.

THE DANGER – Affirmative Action

Affirmative Action looks to be a horse on the up and could cause plenty of problems for the rest of the field. A good winner of the Sir Colin Meads Trophy this looks like a race he can win, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this progressive type in the winner's circle once again.

VALUE BET – Quondo

Quondo is the biggest mystery in the lineup. An impressive winner on debut, this represents a huge step up in class, but he is clearly talented. Capable of being anything, he is definitely one to watch with real interest.

Midnight Edition loves it around Te Repa and has two wins from his last two starts at the track. Conditions should be ideal and he looks to have a great chance of making it a trio of Te Repa successes.

THE DANGER – Glamour Tycoon

Few can boast the winning strike rate of Glamour Tycoon. A winner of four of his 18 starts, he has also placed nine further times. Usually, a factor in sprint races of this kind, another big run can be expected.

VALUE BET – Whiskey N Roses

Whiskey N Roses is our long shot of the day. Another who loves things around Te Repa, he has won twice at the track and should be capable of putting together another big effort. He has been off the track since the end of May which is a slight concern, but his price can’t be ignored.
