I’m in Muswellbrook for my first best bet of the day, and it’s the Muswellbrook Gold Cup. A healthy field awaits us, but it’s hard for me to go past Green Fly. The gelding has been racing very well and is looking for the hat-trick of wins today. He has to carry the top weight for this race, but the $4.00 we can get for him at the moment is too good to pass up.

Another big field, but the favourite, Battlefield, looks too difficult to hold out. The 5YO has finished in the top three in all runs so far this prep, including a win at Eagle Farm. He is also a multiple winner here at Toowoomba, and he draws much better than he did last time out. Jockey Luke Dempsey, who was on board last time out, retains the ride.

Quick Analysis:

So Suave is the younger brother to Verry Elleegant, and looks to be building nicely enough in his career. There are a few live chances in this one, but the gelding is due for some luck. He is well into his prep, so he should be super fit coming into this one. He comes from a good stable as well, and Chris Waller certainly knows what he is doing. Gets another crack at the 2,000m mark.

Stats and Insights

  • Rising Water has placed in both runs this campaign and was runner-up last start at Darwin. He looks set to go one better this time in Race 3 at Darwin.
  • Caffettiera only just missed in a driving finish last start at Pakenham when resuming and comes from a respected yard. She looks primed to break through here in Race 4 at Cranbourne.
  • Night Invader has outstanding form at this track and four wins from 10 attempts this campaign at metro level. She looks set to dominate in Race 7 at Launceston.
