Quick Analysis:

First up, we’re heading to Newcastle for the Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup! It’s a small field of just eight runners, and while Aethelwulf is very short, I can’t really make a case for any of his competitors. The 4YO comes into this one on a three-race winning streak after claiming victories at Kembla Grange, Canterbury, and Rosehill. He has been progressing through the grades nicely, and still seems to have gas left in the tank.

I’ve got my sights set on Al Duca, who currently presents decent enough value at each-way odds for the Gold Nugget today at Ballarat. He comes into this one second-up after not doing much last time out. This looks like a much more suitable assignment, and he draws barrier one (while the favourite draws very wide). The mile looks like a better race distance, and Damian Lane takes over in the saddle.

Quick Analysis:

Judith's Revenge is another short-priced favourite, but she’s one to anchor your multis around. She kicked off her prep last time out with a second-place finish at Wagga, only 0.23L off the leader. While she was the favourite in that one as well, it was on a Heavy10 track, and she gets much more suitable conditions this time out. The winner from that race lines up here, but Judith's Revenge can get her revenge, especially from barrier one.

Stats and Insights

  • Fake has won at Atherton and placed once this preparation, making her the one to beat. She can continue her good form in Race 3 at Townsville.
  • Mareth placed fresh at metro level and comes from the Michael Freedman stable. She is capable of causing an upset at big odds in Race 5 at Newcastle.
  • Kickoff won at Townsville last start and comes from a strong camp. She can go back-to-back from barrier one in Race 6 at Townsville.
