Sunday Racing Tips - Ashburton 18/10/26

The Ashburton card this Sunday is headlined by several competitive looking contests and gives punters ten excellent races to enjoy.

Ahead of the action starting we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

As well as our exclusive tips we have highlighted three races which look to be the most competitive of the day. Whether you want to back a short priced favourite, or a horse at longer odds, read on as we have every angle covered.

BEST BET – Ask Archie

Our best bet of the day comes in race 2 where we think Ask Archie could shed his maiden. Having only raced four times he offered up an encouraging second at Timaru earlier this month, finishing just 1.9 lengths behind the eventual winner. He has shown improvement in his two runs and has the inside draw here. There is plenty to like.

THE DANGER – Cocomora

In a weak contest, the connections of Cocomora will be hoping that their charge can emerge from the pack and land a first career win. She has three placed efforts from her eleven starts and what is encouraging is that two of those placed runs have come over this distance. She will be a threat.

VALUE BET – Go Pro

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see some horses who are lurking on a large price compete for the places and one of those could be Go Pro. He has raced some inconsistent races and has a wide barrier to contend with here, however some of his best work has come on a heavy track and with the rain expected to fall he could spring a surprise.

Miss Thunderdonk – 4.00

Hezzarocsta – 6.50

BEST BET – Omega Sprint

It could be argued that race four on the card is the most competitive. With several in with a chance of victory, we like the look of Omega Sprint. A fourth on debut offered up plenty of encouragement and that came in a listed contest. The conditions that day were heavy and there isn’t anything to suggest that he can’t repeat that effort here eased slightly in grade.

THE DANGER – Miss Thunderdonk

Again, there are several dangers but Miss Thunderdonk is the one we have chosen to highlight. She is also unexposed having raced just twice. She has finished fourth on both occasions, but she has shown a good attitude and hasn’t been too far away in both starts. She should go well in the conditions and can’t be easily dismissed.

VALUE BET – Hezzarocsta

The value could lie with Hezzarocsta. He boasts an impressive record of two wins and a placing from four starts, with one of those coming on a heavy surface. He drops down in grade today and should find him self in the mix. There is plenty to like.

BEST BET – Brutal Riff

There are several in with a chance of winning the seventh race of the day but one of the most popular selections will be Brutal Riff. Having recorded one victory and two runner-up finishes from just five career starts, he also has an excellent record over 1200m, finishing in the first two on all three of his attempts at the trip. One to like.

THE DANGER – Novolette

Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson have two live chances with both Arctic Jewel and Novolette, but it is the latter who we have decided to tip up. She has a good record here having won over 1200m at the track in March. She followed that victory with a respectable fourth in stronger company before finishing third at Riccarton. She has been off the track for five months but if tuned up has to be watched.

VALUE BET – Full Cream

Full Cream is our value play of the day. He has won over the distance previously and has two placed efforts at this track. Heavy conditions should still be in his favour, and he should outrun his rather large odds here.
