Fast Track looks good enough to beat the favourite today early at Hawkesbury. The mare has a career record of 10: 2-2-2, which includes a win at Kembla Grange and a top-three finish at Canterbury in her last two runs. She’s had three trials since then, and seemingly does her best work on Soft-rated tracks (6:2-1-0). She’ll be flying from barrier three with 3kg off her back thanks to apprentice jockey Deon Le Roux.

Staying in Hawkesbury for my second best bet of the day with Satono's Shout. We’ve already seen four scratchings, so the field has been reduced to just seven, and he’ll come in a few in the barriers as well. He showed natural improvement, second-up finishing third at Newcastle last time out. Based on his pedigree, the step out to 2,000m shouldn’t pose any issue, and Kerrin McEvoy saddles up with just 55kg.

Heading to the ‘Bool for my last best bet of the day with Salaria. What was originally a field of 13 has been reduced down to eight, and after winning at Pakenham last time out in May, the mare has had two promising trials which lead me to believe she’ll enjoy the Soft-rated track. She’ll have just 58kg on her back with Beau Mertens, and she certainly has enough ability to put her competitors away here.

  • Cantankerous comes from a good stable and won at Ipswich three runs back this prep. He can return to winning form in Race 4 at Ipswich.
  • The Torque Factor led all the way to win at Ipswich last start and has the speed to overcome a wide draw. He can make it back-to-back wins in Race 7 at Ipswich.
  • Empire Of Rome broke his maiden at big odds at Northam last start. He can build on that breakthrough victory at decent odds in Race 7 at Northam.
