I have to stick with the favourite Melek here in Race 4 at Seymour. The lightly raced 5YO broke his maiden on his first attempt at Caulfield Heath. After a long layover, he finished midfield first-up at Sandown Hillside, but improved to finish second, just 0.1L off the leader, last time out at Ballarat. I’m expecting more natural improvement, and John Allen is on board once again.

Quick Analysis:

Heading to Coonamble now, and Talakai looks pretty hard to beat in my eyes. The mare kicked off her prep last time out with a second-place finish at Narromine. She was just 0.34L off the pace in that one, and she draws a lot better this time out. Clayton Gallagher takes over in the saddle, and with just 56.5kg, the 6YO looks ripe to notch up her fourth career win.

Quick Analysis:

My final best bet of the day comes in Cairns with Singular. The gelding is back on his home track, after racing at Townsville for the last three goes. I’m hopeful that this switch of tracks will bring some luck, as the 6YO has been close so far this prep without managing to enter the winner’s circle. Dropping down to a BM65 and jumping from barrier two will also help.
