The best of the Saturday racing in New Zealand comes from Hawera where the card is headlined by the Sweyness and Soliloquy Stakes.

In what is a competitive card ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. As well as our exclusive tips we have highlighted three races which look to be the most competitive of the day. BEST BET – Asturia

In the Windsor Park Stud Soliloquy Stakes, Asturia is our best play of the day. Having made just two starts, she was a good winner on debut before narrowly missing out in the Hawkes Bay Guineas. She is clearly highly regarded and with the potential for further improvement she is our play here.

THE DANGER – Hawea

Despite the potential of Asturia it is Hawea that could jump as the favourite for the race. A winner of two of her five starts, that includes a win last time out in the Grade 3 Gold Trail Stakes. She has placed in a higher grade than this and can’t be discounted at all.

VALUE BET – Miss Magnetica

At a bigger price Miss Magnetica could be worth consideration. She took a big step forward last time out and broke her maiden at this track at the start of September. She did that in hugely impressive style, the step up in distance to 1400m should unlock even more and she should be one for the shortlist.

Chatelle Rose – 6.50

BEST BET – Special Sakura

Special Sakura looks a strong contender despite finishing seventh in the Group 1 at Hastings last time, where she was beaten just 2.3 lengths after encountering trouble in running. The five-year-old mare has already won at Ellerslie and boasts two victories from four starts over this distance. She looks a real contender.

THE DANGER – Platinum Attack

Platinum Attack is the big name in the race and could well go off at short odds. Having won a third of his career starts, the bulk of his racing has been done right at the top level. Although yet to land a blow in Group 1 contests, connections will be aiming for success here. He sets the standard based on past form.

VALUE BET – Chatelle Rose

Although the top two look solid in the market, it is hard to look past the chances of Chatelle Rose. A winner of four of her last five and her last three starts she is in the form of her life. She has only had one crack at a graded race and she finished well down the field. However, she is a different horse now and should give a good account of herself this time around.

BEST BET – Levakia

It could be argued that the Staphanos Classic is the most competitive contest on the card, however Levakia will start as the warm favourite. Dangerous over this distance, he has two placed efforts over this trip and has the staying power to last home. His last two runs have been over much shorter, so his recent form could be looked over.

THE DANGER – Boxmoss

It's a similar story for Boxmoss. A specialist over the longer distances as judged by his success in the The Lawn Shed Winter Series - Stayers Final, he should be right up with the pace and should last home. With two wins at this track there is plenty to like and a big run can be expected.

VALUE BET – Diamond Jak

Our best value play comes from Diamond Jak. A veteran of this distance and this track, he has won three of his last four contests and could serve it up to his more esteemed rivals. He has been giving his backers plenty of value for their money of late and although this is tougher, it could well happen once again.
