Quick Analysis:

In the 2026 Ararat Gold Cup, Aftermath looks pretty difficult to beat in my eyes. The gelding is shooting for a hat-trick of wins here today after taking out races in St Arnaud and Mortlake. His victory in the Mortlake Cup was particularly impressive, winning by a margin of almost 5L. Linda Meech is back in the saddle, and they’ll have their work cut out for them from barrier nine, but they’re good enough.

Top Pick:

Quick Analysis:

Heading over to Warren for the Cotton Cup, and it’s hard to look past the top-rated runner, Micro Mikki. The gelding will have to lug around the top weight, but his impressive career record (20:4-4-4) means he shouldn’t have much problem with that. He has been there or thereabouts so far this prep, and this looks like a very winnable race. Clayton Gallagher is back in the saddle, and barrier two is a kind draw.

3. Little Fella

Quick Analysis:

Wrapping things up at the Sunshine Coast, and I reckon Little Fella is good enough to topple the favourite in Race 6. The gelding finished second in Doomben first-up last time out, and I’m expecting to see a bit of natural improvement second-up. Apprentice jockey, Jett Newman, is in the saddle once again, and brings a 2kg weight relief with him. The 4YO is one-from-one when second-up as well.

Stats and Insights

  • Tiff's Lad returns to non-metro racing and comes from an astute stable. He can take advantage of the class relief and challenge the favourite in Race 4 at York.
  • Shamedy comes off a win at Bundarra last start and has recorded two victories and multiple placings this prep. He can continue his strong form in Race 6 at Armidale.
  • Addictive Dream comes off a win at Leinster last start and has recorded three victories from her last four starts. She can pop up at decent odds in Race 8 at York.
