War Decree Stakes (Group 3 – 1400m)

Selections:

Sword of Stars – 3.70

Omega Sprint – 5.00

Sheza Professional – 8.00

BEST BET – Sword of Stars

A fascinating renewal of the War Decree Stakes lies in store and it’s the Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson trained horse, Sword of Stars who is expected to jump as the favourite. Having run five times, she broke her maiden last time out at Timaru and looks ready to win again. Her last visit to the track saw her finish third in the Canterbury Belle Stakes. That was on a soft track and conditions should suit once more.

THE DANGER – Omega Sprint

Omega Sprint could be a real threat. Having just raced twice, his connections clearly think highly of him. He won well at Ashburton last time out and should be ready for this assignment. Capable of further improvement, this small step up in trip has the potential to reveal even more.

VALUE BET – Sheza Professional

Sheza Professional could be the value play of the race. Boasting a similar profile to Omega Sprint, this will be her third race and she also races having broken her maiden tag at this track a month ago. That win came over this distance and was done in a convincing style. A repeat of that effort could well come.

Tab Mile Prelude - ( 1400m)

Selections:

Iron Hawk – 2.10

Dream of the Moon – 5.50

Mystic Park – 6.50

BEST BET – Iron Hawk

In the Tab Mile Prelude it’s hard to look past the chances of the top three in the betting and its Iron Hawk who is expected to lead the way. A winner of five of his seventeen starts, three of those have come here. He is yet to finish outside of the places when he visits Riccarton. It’s clear he loves it here and another big run can be anticipated.

THE DANGER – Dream of the Moon

Trailing Iron Hawk in the betting is Dream of the Moon. Whilst not as much as a prolific winner as Iron Hawk, he represents top class connections and all of his wins have come here. He returned to racing after a lengthy break with a poor showing last time out, but with that run now behind him, more can be expected here.

VALUE BET – Mystic Park

Mystic Park rounds out the top three in the betting and could be the value play of the contest. Somewhat of a track veteran, 17 of his 25 starts have come here and he boasts a tremendous record of 7 wins and 3 placed efforts. He will feel at home and despite others being fancied, he should give his backers a good run for their money.

Pavilion Now Open Spring Classic (2000m)

Selections:

Hakkinen – 2.30

Smiling Eyes – 5.00

Unleash The Beast – 14.00

BEST BET – Hakkinen

In the Pavillion Now Open Spring Classic there are several that could win this race but it’s Hakkinen who is the worthy favourite. Arguably Sam Walker and Mike Bergerson’s best chance of the day as he heads into this race having won his last two races. Both of this wins have come here and there could be plenty more to come in this contest.

THE DANGER – Smiling Eyes

Smiling Eyes boasts a similar profile to Hakkinen and heads into this contest in great form having won three of her last four. She doesn’t have as much track experience as Hakkinen, but she has placed on the one time that she has raced here. She is thriving at the moment and is hard to ignore.

VALUE BET – Unleash The Beast

Unleash The Beast is our value play of the day and despite some stiff competition we think he can play a part here. A winner last time out at Timaru, he goes well here having won three of his eleven starts at the track. The distance shouldn’t be an issue and he could outrun his odds.
