Quick Analysis:

There are only seven runners in this one, and my eye is solely on Pentagon. The 5YO comes into this on third-up and has been improving with each run. Last time out, he finished second by just 0.63L in Hawkesbury. This one doesn’t look that materially harder, and Shannen Llewellyn sticks, bringing a 2kg weight relief as well. The step up from 1,400m to 1,600m in this one looks ideal.

Quick Analysis:

All eyes will be on Flemington today for Oaks Day, and in Race 7, it’s difficult to go past the favourite, Sequinned. The filly is in fine form so far this prep, and has already notched up three wins. There’s been a little break between her last run and this one, but she had a tune-up at the trials a couple of weeks ago. James McDonald won on her last time out, and he’s back in the saddle again. The pair are good enough to overcome the wide draw.

Quick Analysis:

For the Group 1 VRC Oaks, De Armas looks very hard to beat, especially from barrier one. We see yet another Chris Waller/ James McDonald combo, and the filly won the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes last time out, which is always a good form indicator. It’s a stacked field, but with the current favourite, Proxima Dea, jumping out wide, De Armas is the better play in my eyes.

Stats and Insights

  • Encroaching led throughout to break his maiden at Belmont last start and comes from a strong stable. He can make it back-to-back wins as one of the more favoured runners in Race 7 at Belmont.
  • Ciao Bella Mia has recorded two wins from 12 starts this prep and finished third at Nowra last start. She can build on that and challenge for the win in Race 7 at Sapphire Coast.
  • Ice Kool has recorded three wins from six starts this prep and was narrowly beaten as favourite at Flemington last start. He is good enough to give the favourite a run for their money in Race 9 at Flemington.
